In the Grecia/Atenas area and nearby I know the drive to CIMA/San Jose is not that far where one can access a host of doctors. However, I am curious about the availability of “specialists”, i.e. Cardio…Internist…Endocrinology..etc in the more immediate areas of Grecia and Atenas. Not looking for names or details but more of a general response regarding the accessibility to “private” (meaning not using the CAJA) doctors with some of the above mentioned specialties. Or is the more common practice for most ex-pat residents in those areas to drive into San Jose? Thank You. Is their a full service hospital the the area or mostly “emergency clinics”?

We have gone to Cima and Hospital Biblica. My husband was in Biblica for Dengue. They are excellent and some of the same drs at biblica and cima practice at both. I have had a lot of testing at cima and the specialists are there for all kinds of specialties. You will find that time with patients is not cut short at all. I have been told that biblica is less expensive by several people don’t know if that is a fact because I have never compared pricing.

I can’t direct you to any in the area you are inquiring about, but many towns have doctors and specialists, who practice in small private clinics, where surgery is performed and offer emergency services.
Hospital La Católica also in San José, is an excellent hospital, and recommend it highly.
To find out what services are offered in any town you are interested in living in, it is best to stay in the area for a week or so, and not to rely solely on what you can find ‘online’ before signing a longtime lease.
