updated 8:55 a.m. CT, Tues., Oct . 6, 2009
The head of the United Arab Emirates’ central bank said Tuesday the Gulf nation has no plans to stop pricing oil in dollars or tying its currency to the greenback.
UAE Central Bank Governor Sultan Nasser al-Suweidi told The Associated Press in a statement that “there has been no meeting … whatsoever” to discuss ending the U.S. currency’s role in the pricing of oil.
Al-Suweidi “denied totally” a report in Britain’s Independent newspaper that said secret meetings were taking place between Arab states, China, Russia, Japan and France to instead use a basket of currencies for oil.

There is simply now way that an experienced and respected reporter like Robert Fisk and a newspaper like ‘The Independent’ would publish an ENORMOUS story like this without checking and double-checking their facts a zillion times so, I can only assume that as is mentioned in the article at
[ http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/the-demise-of-the-dollar-1798175.html ]
That “The Americans, who are aware the meetings have taken place – although they have not discovered the details – are sure to fight this international cabal…”
My guess is that the US has already put enormous pressure on these various players to get them to issue denials…
The article also mentioned: “These plans will change the face of international financial transactions,” one Chinese banker said. “America and Britain must be very worried. You will know how worried by the thunder of denials this news will generate.”
Vamos a ver!

Its the newspaper Business. They print what sells. Respect and experience no longer has much to do with it. It’s all about money. Journalism is practically dead.
Journalism IS dead. News organizations now have two functions: to sell advertisement and to keep the public distracted with fluff and meaningless conflicts against mostly ineffectual and irrelavant enemies. Slight of hand requires the audience to focus on everything and anything but the set up for the tricks.
I agree. And I don’t belive Scott is naieve, but when he writes “there is simply no way” it makes me wonder…
