Employment opportunities in Costa Rica

Hola, I am a mechanical construction superintendent with 25 years experience working in heavy industry, new construction and maintenance. I will be moving to CR in April. Does anyone on the forum have any leads for employment in this field? My partner is fully licenced RMT and will also be seeking employment. Any leads would be much appreciated. Pura Vida.

First of all you will need a visa…. Without a visa you can not get any employment, you will be a tourist, and tourists are not allowed to work in Costa Rica. If you want to work (employed) and know what you could earn please have a look at http://www.ministrabajo.go.cr/Macros/Salario/Salarios%20Minimos.htm
And don’t forget: as long as you are tourist you will have to leave the country every 3 months for 72 hours.

New home construction in 2006 was about 70% higher than the year before and this year it’s already up 20% in January/February over 2006.

So if you are both legally entitled to work and can speak Spanish (???) the possibilities are limitless.

However, to make a decent living like anywhere else, you would best starting your own ‘consulting’ company.

Please search for this forum for past threads regarding getting a job in Costa Rica. I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed.

A visa is simply permission to enter the country, not to work there. I am unsure what you mean by “cedular stutus”. I assume you mean that you will have a cédula (i.d. card) “de pensionado” (retired) or “de rentista” (not retired, but with enough money to buy the privilege of a more permanent resident status). Neither of these allows you to become employed there.
