I just finished reading the story of E.L. Locos run for residency in Costa Rica.
The other half of the story is when all of your documents are accepted and the “Tecnicos” continually find something they don’t think is right.
You file is sent up to the office of the Director de Migracon to check on approval and if it looks OK to them it is sent back to the “Tecnicos” for another go round.
I went through this three times during the 19 months it took to get my residency approved using the original documents.
During the process I ended up making monthly visits to the Oficina de Controloria to inquire as to the progress of my residency. Each visit started out by checking where my file was through the computer and then one of the workers going to that location to check on progress.
Like E.L. Loco I think it was well worth the effort and it taught me a lot about how to deal with bureaucracy in Costa Rica.
