What is the best way to excahnge dollars for colones. ATM- Banks?
Will be at San JOse Airport with some time to spare

The San Jose Airport has the worst exchange rates, even the U.S. airports have better rates than SJO. Best bet ATMS or Banks in CR.
I’ve noticed that the banks have different rates for converting to colones and different service charges. Might pay to shop around if you’re going to be there a lot and need to use the ATM often. Also, I’ve found that some of the machines will only let me take out small amounts at one time. I think it’s 100,000 colones per transaction. But if I reinsert my card it will allow me to take out anonther 100,000 (about $200 USD) etc. Some will only allow me to withdraw once and that’s it.
