After six months of looking at various contractors work and soliciting bids, my search is complete and work has finally begun.
The contractor is Matrix Construction; his name is Fabio Foti and his work is going great so far….He lives in Heredia, but works alot along the central Pacific Coast. He has built houses in Nosara also…I looked at a couple of houses that he built and a hotel he remodeled…Prices are reasonable and work is fantastic….really pleased thus far.
He is replacing some bad plaster, new windows (entire house), new paint, new doors, new tile, completely gut three bathrooms and some electrical work….
Thus far not one single complaint…he has great forsight and makes good recommendations also….
He speaks absolutely perfect English…actually better than mine….

Sorry, but been …done that.June 7, 2010 at 10:19 pm #159311GreciaBoundMemberAmen CRF. Finishing the job is the most difficult part for the owner to manage. Make sure that in the end you get a “finiquito” from the builder that indicates the project is over or the contract is complete, so that you are completely off the hook for potential CAJA issues of the maestro de obras or the workers. Very important… Also get a guarantee which states that the builder must come back and fix items like plumbing leaks, etc. so you are protected from additional charges or refusals to return…congrats on your progress so far!

June 8, 2010 at 3:26 pm #159313lavemderMemberwe have completed our casa and very happy with results and a process. Alajuella area. Casa was completed 3 days before the contract date, we have 5yr warranty.
Can’t wait to move in…June 8, 2010 at 6:45 pm #1593142bncrMemberWho was your builder?
June 9, 2010 at 2:35 pm #159315lavemderMember“Guido Archtectura and Castillo Arias construction”.
They work together through the whole process.
We are greatfull for what they build for us.June 10, 2010 at 6:49 pm #159316tomstew1MemberI was not celebrating anything really…I was commenting on the fact that I feel I have found a good contractor after a long search. Actually we are more than 60% through with the exterior and I have not had one complaint.
I certainly don’t mind offering negative comments when warranted; and they are not warranted now.
Some of the people on this board have a bad case of the negativitis, aka pissiness.
“You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.”
The only reason I commented actually was due to the many compalints that I see and my overall satisfaction with this group.
June 11, 2010 at 9:19 pm #159317PanicmasterMember:evil:I am back to looking for one since my contractor in playa de Cocos got their ego in an uproar when they emailed me the day before my wife ,who had taken 3 months off to go down and supervise the construction was ready to leave. Turns out that after three months of discussion of the dates and a couple of thousand dollars for preliminaries, they waited until the day before her flight to go for the permit and found it would take at least another three weeks. When I expressed my dismay at this situation, they immediately sent me a letter quitting and will not take calls or emails. This lives up to many of the things I have read about temperment and never giving money in advance. They knew for three months the dates and the need to complete the project, which involved building some walls and water drainage (as we live at the bottom of a large hill/mt) and the need to complete the project before the height of rainy season washed what was left of our driveway away. Their front man is very charming but very full of himself and will take no criticism or anything other than telling him all is wonderful.
