yes it was a interesting challenge but I would do it again. We shipped out SUV using DOLE. Once it hit the port in Limon my wife and I went to pick it up. We did the paper work ourself’s and drove it back to SJ. Many people don’t understand but you can do the paper work yourself instead of using a shipping company. In our case we moved here on a shoe string budget and could not afford the estimated cost that shippers where giving us. It does help tremendously though when your wife is a Tica. We also had some small snags such as our plates were stolen and had to buy someones elses stolen ones. But that is Latin America!
thats good you got your vehicle.and funny about the tags.
Let me get this straight – so now you’re driving around with stolen tags?
plates… yep… the funny thing is that I asked the customs guy what do we do when your plates were stolen.. he said ask some one for new plate… he was tipping his head to a gavilan. Then I asked well if we have to pay 37 dollars for one can he get me Minnesota plates…. they said no problem..hahaha… I should have asked if he had hawaii…hahah

TicoRealtor,
So would you buy illegal plates and drive with them in the US?
Jerry
We are doing the tourist 90 day deal so we can pay the 4000 dollar taxes. In order to do that we had to have plates from the U.S.
