This is information I cut and pasted from my friend’s email. If anyone has anything to add to what she shares here, please post.
“We worked with someone by the name of Loreta Odio (propertysolutions@racsa.co.cr) who assisted us with our San Jose shopping spree. She and her husband have a company called “Property Solutions” in Playas del Cocos. She has been a pleasure to work with, by and large. We feel totally comfortable regarding her integrity / honesty and she has been very useful for us. She met us at the airport in San Jose and took us all over San Jose to find furnishings. Her English is excellent. She took us to a shop in Escazu (a suburb of San Jose) called Tamarindo Pacifico that we absolutely fell in love with. We had been a little unfocused regarding “the look” we had in mind, but what we saw at Tamarindo Pacifico was a lock – it was just what we were looking for —- although we hadn’t even articulated what that was! It has been a challenge both for us and for her to nail down all of the particulars – and that is still ongoing. Additionally, Loreta also took us to a place where we purchased all of our outdoor furniture.”
The fees I was quoted for Loreto’s services sound very reasonable, although I always prefer to do things on my own if I can. With more knowledge of reputable furniture dealers who are bi-lingual, this might be possible.February 9, 2007 at 1:48 am #181627AndrewKeymasterIs this a Discussion or a ‘commercial post’?

February 9, 2007 at 3:01 am #181630CarolWestermanMemberI amj trying to furnish a 2500 sq. ft. place that Valicy (Scott MacDougall) built in Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste and I’d like to be able to do so without hiring a designer. I was hoping to get names of furniture stores I could visit in or near Sarchi that have Costa Rican tropical style furniture – ones that folks who read this forum have tried and found to be reputable and perhaps cater to those who only know “Tarzan Spanish” I’m doing my Rosetta Stone lessons every night, but have a long way to go. To be more concise – an recommendations for furniture stores near San Jose or Guanacaste?
February 9, 2007 at 1:45 pm #181631mediaticaMemberHave you tried Tropical House Imports (they have offices in Liberia, 27 de Abril, and at the Do It Center in Liberia). That may be a good start. Buena suerte.

If you are interested in decorating your house I will recomend you to check vey well what are you buying. There is a lot of people offering furniture Sarchi style that is true sometimes it looks good and is cheap but let me know how much it last, and the same thing happened with the fabrics and draperys.
I know that you are looking for good quality and durability because when they a condo here maybe you are not just thinking about coming for vacations, instead you also want to get inside a rental program.
For all that you need to know what you are buying and also be sure what is the best for your needs that why I really recomend you to contact a interior design firm or when you go to a store ask these questions:
Do you have a certificated interior designer in this company?
Where he or she graduate?
Where he or she works before?
Do you have a portfolio of other projects that I can see?
What kind of furniture you have available?
Which brands?
Where they built that furniture?
What type of wood do you use?
What kind of fabrics they use?
What is the difference between the furniture that I have to buy for a beach condo instead a city condo?
And the most important question… Do you have a WARRANTY on your furniture and fabrics?A lot of companies and people offer “interior design services” but there are only a few that really know what they are doing. If you need any more information it will be a pleasure to help you.
