I was just wondering what are gas prices in various areas of CR?
The same everywhere. Regular is 552 colones per litre or $4.00 per gallon!
Harvey
Harvey is correct. Fuel prices, including bottled gas, are set by the government. Super gas is about c599 per liter. Diesel runs about c375. Right now, the exchange rate is about c518 = $1.00 and there are 3.785 liters to a U.S. gallon.
Go figure.
According to La Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo (Recope) gas prices will be going lower in January.
It’s probably safe to assume that any major decline in wholesale oil prices will take quite some time to be reflected at the pump as that cheaper oil probably has yet to be delivered.
I don’t know if this is still accurate but the last time I researched the taxes on gasoline in January of this year: “In Costa Rica, taxes make up about 37.74% of the price for regular gasoline. In the UK taxes make up 75% of the price and only about 11% in the US…. “
Hope that helps…

That 11% may not stay that way much longer…:cry:
