We, too, have a good review to share about Arden’s service. We bought a gas-powered pressure washer from Amazon.com and had it shipped to their warehouse in the Atlanta, Georgia area from where it came down here in a container with other things. The price was reasonable and the service was just fine.
I’d do it again.
I have a 4×4 and a small amount of misc goods that will be delivered to me in the southern zone next week (Good Friday) and so far the service has been excellent. I would recommend Arden and Barry as well. 😀
Barry who manages the San Jose office and Charlie that handles all goings on in the warehouse are both great people to deal with and understand the meaning of customer service. I recommend this company highly.
What is the “ballpark” final cost of shipping a car and household belongings to Costa Rica? I realize that the type of car would likely greatly influence the cost. However I’m looking for a general idea of what the actual shipping and broker type services cost. I assume one can look up on the website Scot previously listed to determine the duty/taxes to be charged by the CR government for bringing in a car.
We are about 3 years out (feels like a really, long time!) from making our move, but we are trying to get a handle on how much cash we will need on hand at that time. Any input would be great appreciated.
The cost of importing your car will be determined mainly by its value as determined by Costa Rican Customs.
When you commit to a container, the cost of the container and shipping it is fixed regardless of what’s in the container or how much it weighs. Full, partially full, or mostly empty, the cost will be the same. You can include the car, if there’s room, at no additional cost other than Customs duty and the associated “nationalization”.
The cost of the container and shipping will depend upon then-current prices from wherever it is you live to wherever it is you want the contents delivered.
Costa Rican Customs will also assess import duty on the contents of the container other than the car. You must provide them an inventory listing every item. And whether it’s new or used, everything (everything) is “used somethingoranother”.
Update on my shipping situation:
I shipped a 4×4 loaded with personal goods from California to CR with Barry and Arden at ShipCostaRica.
The 4×4 was delivered to me on Good Friday personally by Barry himself with all the goods and a full tank of gas to boot! They even replaced the battery that had gone dead in transit. I cannot say enough about how smooth the process was and not even a single word about delivery on a holiday.
My vehicle also has the registration and plates so was ready to roll. Just to reiterate my earlier post I highly recommend them to anyone. 😀
