I read somewhere that thee is a class in or near San Josa that gives classes that will fulfill all the requirements to get a permit. I can not find that info anymore. I thought that I printed that info out. Does anyone know about the school or class. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

There are a few places to do this …
The indoor range that’s probably easiest for you to find that gives these courses is [ http://poligonocdc.com/ ] which is about 600M away from Pizza Hut offices in Pavas which is about 1KM away from the US Embassy in Pavas.
To get a license to carry ‘permiso de portacíon’ – you do need to be a legal resident of Costa Rica.
PS. And yes! They do give the courses in English as well as Spanish.

I believe, I read somewhere, not sure, that you may only have and carry a handgun up to .45 caliber. Can anyone provide input?

I guess that would rule out my 454 Casull; but hey a .45 will surely do the job.
The .45 will surely take care of any job, that needs to be done. I carried one during two tours of Vietnam and other assignments. The weapon never let me down, not to mention stopping power. I still own a 1911A1 for emotional reasons.
If there’s enough interest from our VIP Members in the San Jose area, I would be happy to arrange a trip to the range for some practise and maybe lunch afterwards?

PS. They have weapons for rent there too including a Kalashnikov which was a fun treat for my son (see photo) when he was here in January….
Scott,
Do they rent full auto, and is the range full auto capable; or, is it strictly semiauto firing? Do they sell cheaper reloads for firing on the range?
Yes they sell reloaded ammunition…
