I will be spending a few months in CR, does anybody know about health insurance?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
If you are only here for a few months you might ask your travel agent or your existing insurance broker about your ‘travel insurance’ coverage…
Some credit cards will also give you basic travel insurance coverage so you might want to check that too before you pay for your trip with one of your credit cards.

PS. I have been very disappointed with the dozens and dozens of insurance agents that I have interviewed here and have yet to find one that I feel REALLY comfortable in recommending to our VIP Members.
Scott,
I had thought that the rider bills that are being voted for in the wake of “TLC” were going to address some of the problems. And as I understood it, the CR Senate had passed a bill deregulating the insurance industry and INS now has competition.
So, shouldn’t we start to see a flood of foreign insurers coming to Costa Rica?
thanx,

Yea right David and probably for only $1,000 per month… everyone will lose with this program…The U.S. has once again duped another country in the world. Please don’t think for one second that anything good will ever come from the comsperisy (sp) offered by the U.S. Government

To the best of my knowledge, INS is still the only provider of health insurance in Costa Rica. You do not need to be a resident to obtain coverage. Rates are based upon your age (and maybe sex) and pre-existing conditions. Coverage for most things begins as soon as the policy is issued. There are some copays but no deductibles.
You could contact the Association of Residents of Costa Rica to learn more.
