I’d be anxious to hear everyone’s experience and opinions about the heartworm medications available here in Costa Rica. When our Labrador retriever was met at the airport last September by a local veterinarian, he mentioned that only generic ivermectin is available here and that if we want brand name stuff, we would have to get it from the U.S. We brought a supply with us, but it’s running out.
We can buy generic ivermectin from http://www.petshed.com (located in Australia) and have it shipped to the U.S. without a vet’s prescription, but I’m wondering if it’s any better than the locally available stuff.
In a past life, I’ve heard from human medical doctors that not all generic medications work like the brand names and I’m inclined to think the same may apply to the generic ivermectin.
Your thoughts?
David, I think there was a vet mentioned on this website that is approved so to speak by Scott. You may want to search and ask his/her opinion on this.

Hi- I was wondering how hard it was to bring your dog? I have four to bring down!! I was told all they would need is a Vet. cert. stating they are healthy and are up to date on their shots. Did you have any problems? Thanks
