I have been seeing these billboards for a real estate project in Costa Rica supposedly overlooking Jaco called Hermosa Highlands – the one with the skinny, anorexic looking gir in the bikini with the guy in the t-shirt.
When you visit their website at http://www.hermosahighlands.com you are immediatly shown a short video, near the end of the video (just after the title syas ‘Luxury Villa PreConstruction from the low $200’s)there is a shot of a marina in Jaco?
Is there a marina in Jaco? Or has that superimposed in there because it does not look real to me? Or did this marina appear during the last few weeks since I was last there?
Is that called “marketing,” blatant misrepresentation or just fraudulent?

Was there for lunch a year ago. Went to web site and “had to” sign in. Got an email but no further entrance into the web site to investigate your marina question just out of curiosity. Am thinking of CR for one day down the road and we like Jaco so far. Since I couldn’t get any pics from the web site, I cannot determine for myself which marina you mention. My son is a marine mechanic so thinking of ‘landing’ there one day in hopefully the near future so it’s not really an idle question. Thanks for listening. Janet

You can see the picture in the main video of the first page. It is right after the “anorexic girl” standing next to the male model.
There is a pause button you can click to stop the picture from flowing and you will be able to study the port.
It doesn’t look like Los Suenos, as the backgroung hills are to close.
Cheers

We actually were taken to this mountiantop construction site. We dubbed it the ‘Macchu Pichu of Costa Rica; becasue it resembles the famous archaelogical site high in the Andes Hemosa Highlands, is just that: high up in the mountains and very remote. It is about 1.9 miles ‘as the crow flys, above Jaco and Playa Herradura (near Los Suenos) but there is no road to get there yet, so you have to go about south of Jaco (near Esterillos) and cut back up into the mountains on a long and harrowing drive. We could only envision that the to-be-built ‘direct’ road from this development to Jaco would look like the very winding Lombard Street in San Francisco, steep and curvey! Perhaps, if they put in a tram to get up there and a canopy zip line to get down, it would have some appeal…at least to those who relish mountain seculsion to the max…or perhaps to Peruvian Incas! We bought at much more convenient condo development on the Coastline Hwy., between Los Suenos and Jaco, convenient to everything and without the nosebleeds!

September 14, 2006 at 11:09 am #178660GringoTicoMemberThere is no marina in Jacó. They were trying to pull a fast one. The video now abruptly ends right after the s.
September 14, 2006 at 11:16 am #178661*LotusMemberI thought it was the Los Suenos marina and they were just including it in there video, not mentioning that it is a few km’s away to the north. Scott seems to think it has been super imposed on the north end of Jaco. I have not been down for about 6 months and just can not visualize it all. Is it even the Los Suenos marina?
September 14, 2006 at 5:20 pm #178662Janet SlimakMemberI can assure you it is the LS marina. I just don’t know how it fits where they claim it to be. At any rate, it is private and top dollar so not for the casual boater. The marina near Jaco is not what one would expect in the states with a boat to dock or moor. My son will be there in November and no doubt check out the Highlands since they are looking. I have some pics of the LS marina from my last trip if i can attach them here..Janet

We were just in Jaco a few weeks ago and drove through the Marriott Development. Looking at the marina from the ground, it will definitely look different than the areal view. Looks like the Los Suenos Marina to me, the size and layout of it is the same.September 19, 2006 at 12:30 pm #178664AndrewKeymasterYou can see the marina rates at Los Sueños at
The minimum size is 30 – 40′ which costs $20.00 PLF per month payable in advance meaning $600-800 per month
Would appreciate it if someone could confirm that they are fully booked with a significant waiting list – I believe.

We saw this property, among others offered in the area are now convinced we have no business buying anything yet. As the rode narrowed and we kept climbing to this point where the view was incredible, I was captivated by the beauty… forget marinas and highways, it was gourgeous land. It was just to far for us to drive to get a gallon of milk. I understood from visiting the offices in San Jose that the owner was a Mark Ott. After doing due diligence, as we do before buying anything, we found a Mark Stephen Ott had been arrested and eventually convicted in a federal court for for fraud and tax offenses for his participation in a $5 million dollar scam in which hundreds of customers were sold phony rights. Mark Stephen Ott was sentenced to federal prison. Could this be the same guy? Does anyone have any similar information? Any help would be appreciated.

i filled out one little emailApril 11, 2007 at 1:17 pm #178667geminigioMemberI am very interested in what people are saying about “Hermosa Highlands” Has anyone on this forum purchased property there? I have spoken to sales people on the phone and they were the only ones who were not overly aggressive with the cheap sales talk, but again, that doesn’t mean anything. I’ve purchased property from another developer and things are fine but I wanted to make another Costa Rican land purchase for investment and don’t know where or who to go with. When I inquire I get inundated with dozens of phone calls from companies who all say pretty much the same things and I decided to ask this forum’s members for some help? If anyone knows about or has purchased property at HERMOSA HIGHLANDS I would appreciate hearuing from you either here or directly at my e-mail address, thanks very much.

p.s. Has anyone done business with Wellington Asset Mgt?
I contacted them initially and decided I was not interested and now they will not stop bothering me , always a new “Closer” trying to change my mind, getting fed up with the calls at this point.May 10, 2007 at 4:21 pm #178668wesMemberJust left Jaco after touring Hermosa Highlands. Noticed your post from late last year. Have you since discovered any more information about Mark Ott, particularly, whether the Mark Ott from Hermosa Highlands is the Mark S Ott you referred to in your post?
