Concerng a US Bank http://www.everbank.com allows you checking and CD’s in most any currency. Insured by the FDIC. Here is a free newsletter.
Go almost to the bottom of the page on the right click on The Highest Yields on the Planet. He talks about yields at Everbank. Everyone needs to diversify as a free people. It was as little as 25 years ago that you could sell your property in Costa Rica but you couldn’t take the money in dollars out of the Country.

apexit….thanks for the info….as a non-risk taker I have chosen the Capitol One free checking account..5% interest for one year …no fees plus free checks and free atm card. Only for one year but no catches and no risk (except the assurance of the U.S. government) on Fed. covered funds in a bank :”

    Great Terry
You Can say what you want about the USA. Take a look at the article about Icelandic CD’s You hit them twice once with your guaranteed interest and the US$ dropping. The trick is heavily mortage your CR property in dollars put the cash in an interest bearing account in the US and use the interest to pay for your mortgage in CR. Another thing to do that will work to protect your property in CR is mortgage bonds according to Peterson’s book.

From those of us who are financial neaderthals, could you please spell that out with more detail? We’re getting ready to build in CR but are still in the US. Are you saying take out a mortgage from a US bank or a CR bank and use our CR property as collateral? Then what type of account do we use to invest the mortgage money? Banks aren’t giving much lately (as far as I know) so please help me understand this.
    Thanks,
    Rita
