it is my understanding that though CR has a very high percentage of energy coming from wind and hydro, (compared to other countries) we still use imported oil as the bulk of our energy source.
Oil is certainly imported for our use in cars and trucks but I think you’ll find that the vast majority of the energy used in homes, businesses and manufacturing plants is from renewable sources = hydro-electric, geo-thermal and small part is wind energy.
When we had some electricity shortages last year because of low water levels, in emergencies we did switch to oil fired generators to generate electricity for a time which is obviously an expensive back-up.

Can anyone give some ballpark prices on what it would cost to import alternate energy equipment like solar panels, water turbines, etc.?
For example, let’s say you had a $15,000 solar electric off-grid system that you just purchased and want to import into Costa Rica. Is there a standard import duty calculation, any tax breaks for alternate energy? Etc.
