I am living in San Ramon and I haven’t had a haircut since I left the states in aug. My problem is that I am a guy with long thin hair. I asked the family I am staying with and they said they just cut their own hair. I certainly don’t mind traveling to San Jose for a nice haircut. If anyone has any positive experiences please let me know.
Thanks
I had a nice hair cut in Aluejala, just an old fashioned kind of barber shop. I’m sure if you go there you can just ask, thats what I did.
There are at least a couple of good hair cutters in Grecia. You could e-mail me at: daveandmarcia@racsa.co.cr.
Every town in Costa Rica has at least one, if not several, barbers and/or cosmetologists working out of their home. Ask your Tico neighbors or simply drive around looking for the sign “se corta pelo” in the windows. One of the best haircuts I ever had was in the living room of one of these fine establishments. She was a cosmetologist (IMHO much better than barbers), and it was also the fastest cut ever. I was 5th in line, but only waited about 10 minutes for my turn. It was like watching the bionic woman.
My husband got a very nice haircut in San Jose. It cost him $3.00. If you are interested, I will provide more info.
I do not know what kind of hair cut you want or what kind of hair cut the people responding got, but if you want white walls around the ears or a basic Tico farmer hair cut – go for it. As far as a style cut as in the US, I have not found one competent person but I have heard they exist in Escazu. I also have the problem of finding a good to great stylist, so if anyone knows of one plese respond.
Diego, What? You don’t like the “Tico Farmer” cut. Come to think of it all I got was a #2 all the way around with a square back…no white walls.
I left my field-cut days back in the field. LOL!
What about us women? Any decent beauty shops, hair stylists in the Escazu area?
I personally cannot say enough good things about my barber in Turrialba. He hits me with a #8, trims my mustache and goatee AND shaves the rest of my face for 1200 colones. AND, he has a TV going for you to watch!!! Wonderfull!!!

Good question, Marcia. My wife (also a Marcia) has been cautioned that most of the available perms here are too harsh for her blonde hair. Does anybody know anyplace where a nordamericano can get a nordamericano perm?
