Hi, I know there was an older post on this but I can’t find it! We are about to present our building plans to the local municipal for permits and have been told we need a policy from INS to cover the construction. Can anyone tell me what it is actually called so I don’t waste an hour in the local INS office (!)and give an idea of price. We are building a two story 4 bed house with double garage. We are in the process of evaluating builders in the region and most of them say they do not have such a coverage. Thanks.
You’ll need to provide the municipalidad with written proof of a paid-up workers’ compensation policy issued by INS. If memory serves, our cost for a single family dwelling-type project was in the neighborhood of $1,800US.

Please talk to my architect who has done many projects. He got me a policy from INS in Quepos. He is very honest. You might want him to bid your house. Who is going to make sure your builder is going to pay tax at the end of each month or you are going to pay? When you get policy you list workers. So they know how much tax should be paid from builder. It is best for you to take control because builder will pay $500 and charge you $1000 for policy Mr McMurry must be mistaken because Leo paid $1800 for 23 houses for me but I may be mistaken. Leo Barrantes cell is 888 11211. He has 25 years experience. Please I have suggested him before to people on this site and some people knew him. Good Luck
