Abolish all religions, we are all the same.
Abolishing all religion is a good sentiment but not a good way to go. People should be allowed to believe AND profess any nonsense they like. But when nonsense is professed it should be challenged and if no evidence is forthcoming, it should be rejected and then ridiculed.
The ridicule is to insure that craziness and fanaticism don’t get a public foothold. People can be such followers of wishful thinking.
May 5, 2010 at 10:29 pm #166407maravillaMemberthere IS no evidence for any of it. sort of like the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and Santa Claus. it’s about blind faith that the unbelievable is true.
May 5, 2010 at 10:44 pm #166408DavidCMurrayParticipantWait a minute, maravilla! I distinctly remember a daily radio serial from the early 1970s that featured the Tooth Fairy, Newton P. Snookers. You’re not about to burst yet another of my bubbles, are you?
May 5, 2010 at 11:14 pm #166409sstarkeyMemberI must say I felt the Canada article was just plain weird.
It ticked all the boxes for offensiveness, ignorance, general ‘whininess’ etc.
I don’t really understand why it was deemed so intriguing as to have been posted on this site – which is otherwise generally informative and useful – but, hey, what do I know.
Whatever blows your dress up, I guess.

He has guts and has no fear expressing his feelings and decisions.
We also moved form one suburb to the different one 60 miles away, even we lived there for 11 years and loved the place.
This games with “political correctness” and selective “green light” immigration rules for “some” – already leading us to a lot of trubles. We also checked this subject when considered moving to CR.May 6, 2010 at 11:47 am #166411spriteMember
This games with “political correctness” and selective “green light” immigration rules for “some” – already leading us to a lot of trubles. ]I don’t see how moving to CR is a solution for people who have a low tolerance of other cultures unless they are specifically in tune with and adaptable to a latin culture.
It seems to me that citizens who complain about a changing culture (if that is indeed happening to any appreciable degree) may be mis- directing their energies toward the immigrants. The responsibility today for much immigration belongs to the rich and powerful owners of most of the planet and it has to do with cheap labor and further concentration of wealth into fewer and fewer hands.
May 6, 2010 at 12:16 pm #166412maravillaMemberi’m just curious about what exactly lavender checked out in costa rica before deciding to move here? that there weren’t any muslims? or some other ethnic group you hold responsible for your world changing? costa rica has a diverse culture so if you’re running away from the influence of culture invasion from wherever you live now, costa rica is NOT the place for you.
May 6, 2010 at 1:55 pm #166413claytonMemberI would say if he is looking for a Christian, actually Catholic Nation he has come to the right spot. I’m curious how those professed atheist out there can stand so much love of faith you find here in Costa Rica.
May 6, 2010 at 3:49 pm #166414spriteMemberTicos do not make religious laws which cause substantial hardships on non-believers.
May 6, 2010 at 4:06 pm #166415claytonMemberAre we comparing Sharia Law or what? Please explain the federally mandated christian laws which have caused you substantial hardship.

May 6, 2010 at 8:34 pm #166417yorkshireMember
I cannot belive that an educated person that has their eyes open would write such a thing about those who practice the muslim religion. 99.9 percent of them or more are peaceful people. What an ignorant post. if you don’t change with the world, the world changes without you.” I am ashamed for you, and you should be ashamed of yourself.
If Islam is so “peaceful” then why is it most of the violence in the world seems to trace back to them??
May 6, 2010 at 8:48 pm #166418DavidCMurrayParticipant“If Islam is so “peaceful” then why is it most of the violence in the world seems to trace back to them??”, you ask.
Well, the operative word in your question is “seems”. Yes, “. . . most of the violence in the world seems [to you] to trace back to them [Muslims]”, all right but your perception is flawed.
In recent history, certainly a great deal of the violence in the world can be directly traced back not to Muslims but to Christians. Take, for example, the violence on both sides in the conflict over Ireland. Consider the violence perpetrated by drug lords in the Americas. Reflect upon the violence brought to the Middle East by the United States and its “coalition of the willing”, traditionally Christian nations all.
Then think about the violence perpetrated by Israel (whose right to exist is unquestioned, in my own mind) upon the Palestinians. And then the Hutu/Tutsi(sp?) unpleasantness in Rwanda not that many years ago. And the ongoing civil war in the Congo.
Yes, the Muslim world has its share of bad guys, all right, but they hardly have a corner on the violence market as your question implies.

Good point. I guess I forgot about that one. The larger question of womens’ rights is being trampled here once again by religion, though this is not nearly as bad as most of the ridiculous crap enforced in the Muslim world.
May 7, 2010 at 1:00 am #166420CanadianmanMemberDue to family sizes and immigration policies, experts have indicated that Canada will have a Muslim government by 2040. Muslim groups are already having conferences to discuss how they will run the country. More Muslims have immigrated to Canada than to the US, and Canada only has 35 million people, which why it is easier for them to take over the government. The health care system in Canada was once the best in the world, and it just hurts us old guys to see that it died. I have no family doctor, and not a hope in hell of getting one. It was amusing to read that someone said immigration is good for Canada. 65% of all females who have immigrated from Jamaica have six fatherless children and are on welfare for life. Most of the males are drug dealers and are responsible for almost all gun related crimes in Toronto. In regards to seniors living in the same homes as there adult children… Cambridge is the only city in Canada that charges $3,000 for such permission, which comes with a 33% property tax increase. I read that in the newspaper, and it was on radio. Seniors do not financially contribute to betterment of communities, and only cause longer lines at the walk in clinics. One alderman said they small like moth balls, and take up all the good seats at the malls food court, and only buy tea. Municipalities in Canada do what they can to discourage elderly parents from living in the homes of their adult children, even if it means forcing them to make extortion payments for the privilege.
