I have feelers out, and wanted to list here as well. We are looking for a great Labrador Retriever to add to our herd. We have an older, 13 1/2 year old yellow Lab, a new rescued adult mixed breed, and we want to round out the pack with another Lab. We are happy to adopt one in need, we are also looking at the possibility of starting with a pup. If anyone knows of one out there, we’d love to know.
We’re in Manuel Antonio.
Thanks,

July 2, 2012 at 10:12 pm #162997costaricafincaParticipantWe saw a beautiful 2 month old female Lab puppy this morning! The owner, my friends neighbors sister, said that there was only 1 female in the litter, and 6 males. I can try and get contact info if you are really interested.
They are located in Naranjo.July 4, 2012 at 6:58 pm #162998pranaspakeywestMemberThanks for the offer to try and connect me with the folks with the puppies. I’m going to hold out a bit longer to see if I can help out with a rescue. I am in contact with your friend Marvilla, she does seem to be very busy and the process of communicating via email is taking a while, but I’m hoping that something works out. As tempting as a Lab Pup is, I imagine that they are breeding to sell, and I need to see if an adoption is in the cards first, but thanks for the offer, I’ll let you know.
July 4, 2012 at 10:05 pm #162999maravillaMemberis this the email addy you used? pacifico@racsa.co.cr,
tell her i referred you. she’s a friend of mine.
July 5, 2012 at 8:41 pm #163000pranaspakeywestMemberThanks Marvilla, I will try mentioning you, I seem to have a hard time getting responses from her, I’m sure she must be very busy with everything. Can I ask what name you go by? I’m guessing that it may not be “marvilla”.
I’m getting a good number of puppies brought to my attention, but I’m still hoping to help with a rescue, so I hope this can work. Thanks again,
MarkJuly 5, 2012 at 8:58 pm #163001maravillaMemberhola, mark — i just sent her an email and told her to please help you find that perfect labrador. i know she has a couple of young ones there. also, i told her i would give you her phone number, which is 8371-3825. so just give her a call and tell her you got her number from Patricia. If that doesn’t work, let me know. I am in contact with a half dozen other rescue sites but i am sure she will help. good luck.
July 10, 2012 at 5:04 pm #163002pranaspakeywestMemberHi Patricia,
Thanks for your input and help. I wanted to update you with the situation.
At this point we are still searching.
Your friend Helene seems to be a wonderful person doing great work rescuing and providing for her dogs, but it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to work something out with her.
Long story short, she offered to come to my home to check out, then needed to cancel, and now seems to think it better that I look elsewhere, since she is too busy to make the trip to Manuel Antonio.
She was very very nice, and wished me the best, but says that she is too busy to make the trip, and it seems like she requires a visit……..I get it, but I’m a bit surprised.
In any case, we are picky too! We really have our hearts set on another labrador. In the States there are plenty of Lab rescue organizations, but there doesn’t seem to be any here.
We will not consider shipping one down, that would be crazy.
The other sweet dog that you saw I was trying to adopt on line, well, she lost that one. It escaped, and she can’t find it.
So, got anything? Like I said, we’re pretty picky too about who we end up with. we are not “gatherers” when it comes to animals, and so we want to commit to just the right dog.
I keep fighting off puppy opportunities, but one of these days we might just cave in……any leads out there will be great!July 11, 2012 at 1:45 pm #163003maravillaMemberhelene is nothing if not choosy about who gets her dogs. even with 180 of them, she will not let one go unless everything is perfect. she told me her big concern was that your property was not fenced. on my facebook page, i get homeless dog updates all day long – there are so many rescue sites here in costa rica. if you and i were friends on facebook i could forward you the notices i get. somewhere, out there, is the perfect dog for you that needs a loving home. i look at all the notices i get but i have no way to send them to you.
July 11, 2012 at 2:43 pm #163004pranaspakeywestMemberI get some of those announcements too, but more could be better. Look me up on Facebook under Mark Goldstein, I guess it will be good to look for me in Manuel Antonio, or at least Costa Rica, Thanks Patricia.
July 11, 2012 at 2:47 pm #163005pranaspakeywestMemberOh, and by the way, we are fenced in. I had mentioned that it is a seven strand barbed wire fence, and not a chain link, so if a dog wanted to get out, they could somewhere. We have a large property bordered by the National Park on one side, and a 50 hectare farm on the other, and we are two kilometers from the main road, so really it’s like placing a dog on a farm. I guess she still wanted to take a look, but again, too busy.
I’m sure it would have worked for her, and I’m also sure it will still work out when it does, always has…. -
