Hi guys, I really am single. The other posts were enjoyable though and I am also interested in making friends that share some of my desires to move to a CA country and become fluent in spanish. I have visited CR and othe CA countries multiple times and really love the feel. My married friends are moving to Ciudad Quesada next week and have invited me to come along on their journey, as much as that intriques me I’d prefer to make my move at the point that I have some of my own contacts and “friends” so as not to get in their way. Anyone reading these posts interested? As for the married couples, my friends will attest although I am looking for a man it’s not your husband I desire. The way I see it the more friends both male and female the better my chances of finding the right partner. Terri

February 1, 2006 at 10:23 am #174610breezygirl7MemberHi there, Stay away from Belize. I spent last summer there and only
found 2 kinds of business people. People who were investing their
life savings in dive shops, hotels and internet kiosks with more
enthusiasm than you can imagine and then the broke and dejected
variety that had seen all their hardearned retirement money get eaten
up by corrupt officials and a very short tourist season. I’m sure you
are aware that US Companies in general no longer accept Belizian
currency, the Amish are attempting to pull out and the Presidents wife
was caught with millions of US dollars in her suitcase at Miami
International Airport.
I love CR and I am very excited to visit Panama. I have yet to travel
there but have heard great things from friends. I remember someone
telling me about a town called, Bogetta?? Maybe more like bouquette?
Do you know which one I am referring to and how do you feel about
Panama? I have heard it is more affordable than CR but the
infastructure reflects that. Let me know your thoughts.
What do you build? Houses, condo’s, complexes? Have you built
anything in CA? I read the previous posts about building costs and
things seem to be pretty heated. No one wants to be told they paid to
much and yet by US standards housing does seem to be a bargain.PS I tried emailing this directly to you but it was returned by Mailerdemon. Fairwinds Terri
February 1, 2006 at 11:18 am #174611AndrewKeymasterI am single too but dating a lovely Guatemalan lady.
Belize brings back memories of the toughest jungle warfare exercizes I ever took part in….
While we were there, some Americans were filming a Vietnam movie and their stunt men refused to swim in the river in Belize City which was a sensible decision on their part, but we were young, brave and stupid and for the equivalent of a enough money to pay the beer tab for one night – we put on our camouflage cream etc., and swam in there for them. Whether that footage was ever used on film, I have no idea.
I’m older now, not so brave but still stupid 🙂

I love adventure and that seems like fun to have particated on a movie set. I wonder if the producers were dissappointed there wasn’t more action in the shot. Lucky for us there wasn’t and you are able to host such a great site that services and informs so many. I have several friends who have benefitted greatly from your experiences in CR. As I mentioned in a earlier post my friends, the Leggs are moving there next week and with your assistance the transition seems to be going well.
What part of Guati is your girlfriend from? I am very familiar with Antigua, Panahacil(sp), and Fronterras, better known these days as the Rio Dulce. My experiences have all been good in Guatamala but the term “Con Cuidado” fits. Using good judgement is essential and I was always home by dark to avoid issues. My sense is that CR is not as dangerous, is that your view?

PS Two questions. Can you add spellcheck to this forum and are you planning on adding a photo section to this singles area?
February 1, 2006 at 12:37 pm #174613AndrewKeymaster“Fun” – Swimming in a highly polluted Central American river? Oh! Nooooo! But thank you for your kind comments.
I also like Antigua, it’s one of the few heavy tourist areas that still has real indigenous culture. That is one thing that is lacking here.
And spellchek? Wat do we need that four?
And we’re all dying to see your photograph “breezygirl7” which you can easily insert in the ‘Looking for love’ section of the classifieds which you will find at:
February 1, 2006 at 12:42 pm #174614kjterzMemberHey breeze…i share your thoughts on belize…but i do like to visit for the diving and mayan ruins…also there is a great furniture maker there…panama and cr are comparable as to costs…once you get away from the beach and the resorts…prices are excellent….everything is relative…I have read about bouquette…international living is always touting it…sounds enchanting….i am a project manager for a u.s. mid-sized commercial and municipal contractor…though i have an extensive background in residential development, condo and mcmansions….also historic restorations…..I have been exploring the realities of ca for the past three years….I am heading to panama city the end of may for 2 weeks…..try my other email….ctampanow@att.net
February 1, 2006 at 7:07 pm #174615breezygirl7MemberHey I want to see everyone else’s pics too. Do I get some special brownie points for listing mine first. Hey what about my drivers license photo.
Actually I just arrived back to Fl. Sunday from Hondurus and I have some decent pictures. Better everyone see’s the “real” me and how I love living. I leave in an hour for Vegas to the grand opening of the Hooters Hotel and Casino so you’ll have to wait for my return to post pictures.

February 1, 2006 at 7:26 pm #174616breezygirl7MemberHi there,
I was under the impression it was less expensive but the reality is the global economy is becoming flatter and prices for all reflect that.
I’m familiar with International Living and Michael Masterson. Have you ever attended any of the workshops or conferences? I had considered attending the Internet conference in Boston last summer but the cost was prohibitive.
I noticed Tampa in your email. I’m right down the road in SRQ but I’ll be in tampa this afternoon to catch a flight. You mentioned traveling to Panama City. Are you going to just snoop around or do you have a planned agenda? Just trying to get a feel for your investigatory style. For me a little of both works well, having a loose plan with a few fixed items and then just rolling with the locals and info I stumble across. Last October I was in CR with friends and we wound up driving around with a Tico for 2 days exploring places we may never have found otherwise.
Is your research about CR for your personal life, your company or both?
I agree about the diving in Belize. I loved the sealife in Hol Chan. I was very sad about the state of the reefs around Roatan. They have considerable amounts of dead areas with abundant small reef fish but not one large or more rare variety of life. Although other people claimed to see them I didn’t see any turtles, moray’s, manta’s or sharks.

PS I tried the new email address without success……..mailerdemon..
February 1, 2006 at 7:52 pm #174617kjterzMemberhey fair…or should i say neighbor…..srq?…sarasota?…IL is really an international re agent…though their workshops do look interesting ….they are overpriced…i did subscribe to the print edition…it was informative ….my search is for my own personal journey…..i usually pick an area beforehand, gather too much info and freelance once i get there…..i’m into music, architecture, food, etc….i’m not in a rush…i have some re here in tampa and jacksonville and am looking at some other things…..ideally i want something in ca and us…..let me know when you return…maybe we can grab some lunch in ybor…and yak….have a sparkling day…Ken T
February 11, 2006 at 9:56 pm #174618breezygirl7MemberHi there, I’ve arrived home from my Hooters Casino opening in one peice although the collectible bobblehead bit the dust. There still aren’t any other postings from singles bound for or interested in CR. Are you guys out there? I am actually interested in completeing a Spanish immersion course in the country. Does anyone know of any reputable schools or contacts. What about the purity of the language. I spent a month in Antigua Guatamala which claims to have the purest form of spanish and many schools. Is there really that much of a difference? I’d appreciate any feedback.

February 12, 2006 at 5:05 pm #174620breezygirl7MemberIt seems you could be in very high demand in CR, with all the requests for reputable builders. Have you considered doing that?

TerriFebruary 12, 2006 at 10:21 pm #174621kjterzMemberAbsoutely…i’m sure there are many options…there is so much commercial development going on (condos, resorts, etc.)one could do fine just servicing that market…i enjoy doing residential and smaller commercial projects….i do a lot of design build……i’ve found here that the least stressful, most profitable way is to build and then sell independently…what do you do for a living…and where do you live…I spoke with family in Ct. today….there doing the same thing i am…sitting in front of the fireplace….what is wrong with this picture….Ken T
February 13, 2006 at 1:02 pm #174622breezygirl7MemberHi there, I’m a NICU nurse by vocation and just finished up a 3 month seasonal contract at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Although I held a position there for 17 years my decision to leave to do agency and contract work has provided me with more freedom to travel. The agency allows me to work shifts in major metro areas, like Tampa, Miami and Ft. Meyers without time frame contracts.
I own a little RE in Sarasota and this is where I call home. Although I envision myself living in a CA country, keeping a home here in Florida seems reasonable to me.
My friends leave Tuesday for good to CR and are encouraging me to come along and join them. Their business plan looks wonderful on paper and their enthusiasm is contagious but I think it’s better for me to let them get settled into their new life first.
Still trying to keep warm, Terri -
