Although I continue to marvel how ALMOST bugless it is around the Central Valley, a few of the little critters do manage to invade an open window. All of the windows in my townhouse are wood and I would like to find a supplier who will fabricate the simple aluminum frame window screens to order that gringo bugophobes cannot live without. I have searched and cannot find a local vendor. Does anyone know of such a source? My fallback is to find a discount picture frame shop which can build the right size wood frames and attach screen mesh. I anticipate and dread a lot of fast talking to the frame store “artist” to seal the deal for such a pedestrian task. Moreover, the cost will undoubtedly be equal to a lifetime of mosquito repellent. Thanks. DC Bob

Many or most windows here are custom-made of aluminum. They are readily available with screens that are held in place by “L”-shaped plastic attachments. None of what you are looking for is foreign or difficult.

Bob when we built our home in Santa ana we needed sceerns.
Found a window and glass place Just north of the pista I think It Belen or Posa Santana. They just sent the men out and they made them on site. I can never understand why this is such an uncommon thing??April 27, 2011 at 4:26 pm #161079juliabMemberIt depends on how much you’re wiling to spend. If “almost for free”, go to your local ferreteria or acerradera (saw mill) and get the wood (will be very inexpensive as you don’t need thick or long). Buy a saw if don’t have one already (costs 2 mil for the cheap one that will do the job). Buy a box of screws, semi-professional stapler and nylon netting for the screen in the ferreteria. Do the frames, staple the net, nail/screw to the frames, paint if desired. You’re done! One-day project with total cost, may be $50-$100.
If you’re not handy, go to any glass shop in your neighborhood. They’ll quote the aluminum screens. The cost is around $40 for 30sm by 1m screen (we are in Grecia, the price is from 2 years ago).
