I will be returning to San Ramon in Nov and am looking for a messianic group to study and worship with. Anybody know of a group or anybody interested in starting one?

WeLoveCostaRca.com
Messianic Judaism is a religious movement that adds to Evangelical Christian theology some elements of Jewish terminology and ritual.August 24, 2010 at 2:39 am #172099AndrewKeymasterSo it’s Jews supporting Christians or Christians supporting Jews in what beliefs exactly? What’s the common thread?
No pun intended ….
August 24, 2010 at 6:30 pm #172100wspeed1195MemberMessianic Judaism states that Jesus is part of the Trinity and salvation is only achieved only through acceptance of Jesus as one’s savior; Jewish laws and customs do not contribute to attaining salvation but are followed as a sign of devotion and cultural identification. Messianic Judaism’s belief in the role and divinity of Jesus is seen by Christian denominations and Jewish movements as being the defining distinction between Christianity and Judaism.
it’s people, maybe who have held dear to certain beliefs, grown up some looked saw and realized that their specific feelings and beliefs paralelled in other or certain different things.
people are looking closer and closer at the religios upheaval of the world.we are moving from places we’ve baan and from beliefs that are not inherrantly what they feel as right for them, practice another sect or religion and find that they are straddling indifferent courses, and have to find some peace.
which, isn’t that what we look for with our individual and many religions?peace?yes, some people fight,I’d venture that if some of them let their guard down and weren’t so damned hard meaded thing could improve.
I for one applaud someone finding A medium for themselves,it gives purpose rather than opposition.August 25, 2010 at 3:03 am #172101speedo5Member
Messianic Judaism states that Jesus is part of the Trinity and salvation is only achieved only through acceptance of Jesus as one’s savior; Jewish laws and customs do not contribute to attaining salvation but are followed as a sign of devotion and cultural identification. If it works for you, it certainly is fine with me.
August 25, 2010 at 11:23 am #172102wspeed1195Memberit’s not my religion.it’s someone elses.I just read up in it from a few sites and acquired a derivative and posted about it.you don’t have to follow or believe something to be open-minded enough to understand.
like cheating on your spouse.I have never done it,it dirty nasty.I know people who have, hence my opinion of it/them.August 25, 2010 at 12:12 pm #172103spriteMember
you don’t have to follow or believe something to be open-minded enough to understand.

It is one thing when we foster a child’s belief in Santa or the Easter Bunny. It is quite another when we tolerate adults following cults of fantasy which have historically caused so much mischief and have been so closed minded in their own beliefs.
August 25, 2010 at 1:20 pm #172104kimballMemberAre you calling this persons messianic group a cult ?
This guy asks a simple question and people bombard him with questions to his questions and insult his religious practices without any knowledge of it. Strange to say the least.
August 25, 2010 at 1:33 pm #172105spriteMemberI don’t know about the motivation of others. I take every opportunity to attack superstition. People are entitled to believe whatever they wish but they are NOT entitles to a free pass. Opposing ideas or beliefs is not an insult. It is part of the scientific method, the way thinking, rational people arrive at truth. Religious believers have no special right to be offended when their silly ideas are confronted. They may not be obligated to defend those beliefs, but neither am I obligated to sit and be silent.

Free pass on what ?
He isn’t looking for your opinion on his religion. He was looking for a certain group to join.
Since you are ignorant to the answer of that question you should keep to yourself.
Just like my mom would say “If you don’t have anything nice to say then shut the F!%* UP. Then a quick backhand to reinforce. Seems as though that technique wasn’t used in everyone’s household.
August 25, 2010 at 3:00 pm #172107spriteMemberHa! I am sorry to hear that you learned a bad lesson in a bad way. Nobody every succeeded in shutting me down with a back hand slap. I imagine that would lead to more confrontation rather than less.
In any case, if I read here that somebody is looking to come here to join up with some religious group, I feel compelled to address the issue of his reason for coming here. He is adding one more voice to the insanity in the place where I am looking for peace and sanity. I have a stake in this so I will not shut up.
Now, if you want to post a recipe for apple cobbler or talk about a soccer game, I will probably not make any comments.

Oh i see, You stop the religious practices of another man so you can feel more peaceful and sane. How many bong rips did you do before coming up with this interesting concept of religious persecution.
August 25, 2010 at 5:42 pm #172109spriteMemberEither you have a warped way of looking at things or you are just looking for an argument….or maybe you are trying to persecute ME for MY views….:-}
Are you suggesting that if I am against war, for example, that I am persecuting all soldiers and politicians when I criticize?
There exists a group of people who believe the earth is flat. If I criticize them for that belief, am I persecuting them?I clearly stated that I believe anyone can believe whatever nonsense they choose. They can congregate and worship a stick or a rock or whatever they want. But you want to force me to respect those beliefs and to shut up? Nope. Ain’t gonna do it.
August 25, 2010 at 6:38 pm #172110AndrewKeymasterLet’s play nicely please!
Would it be perhaps be sensible to ask in some of the local synagogues if they had any more information about this?
Or would a traditional Rabbi consider this blasphemous? I don’t know…
