I need to hire un guarda – just to live in the house when we are not there so the place isn’t vandalized and vacate when we live there on vacation. His only duty will be to cut the grass and keep the place in order. He’ll have a telephone and cable t.v. The minimum salary listed for guarda is around $265 per month. I know I have to deduct 9% for his caja payments, but do I deduct the 27% employer’s portion from his gross pay to pay the employer’s caja and ins payment? I have consulted 2 “competetent” attorneys so far, to no avail. They just don’t answer the questions that I have. Is anyone else on this board in this situation and have hired a guarda/caretaker/housesitter? Thanks.
I would try and contact someone at the land/sea marina and maybe they can help. Not making any promises, but they are Americans and have been in Golfito for years, and are undoubtedly quite socially connected with the area.
