Our moon made a very close encounter to earth last December 12th and then again on January 10th this year, which has not happened since 1993.. There were unusually high tides in December. I seem to recall reading something about the moon’s gravitational pull having a marked effect on erathquake activity as well as on tides. The earthquake happened just as the moon reached perigee with earth.
