My wife and I recently priced furniture blankets to protect our belongings during shipment to CR. Ugh, $10 a piece and higher. Solution…….Goodwill or Salvation Army stores in your community where blankets and conforters can be purchased at very resonable prices. The money goes to a good cause and our problem was solved at the same time.
Great idea! And when you get here, you can give them away to someone else who needs them …

We did exactly this when we moved in 2005. Our local Goodwill store was awash in quilted comforters that had come out of rental homes in our beach community. After we carefully wrapped each piece in comforters, we used the industrial strength Saran Wrap you can buy from moving companies to secure them.
Other than the fact that about 95 of our comforters were stolen while our goods were in storage here in Costa Rica, this worked perfectly.
So, Goodwill gave you the comforters for a song, and the Ticos in the storage outfit took them off your hands for free once they accomplished their mission. Such a deal!
Plan for the theft, and when it happens, your plan will have worked. Brilliant!
Uh, not exactly . . . It was clear when our second shipment of household goods arrived that the things that had been wrapped in bedspreads and plastic wrap had been unwrapped and sitting in the warehouse uncovered for many months. Everything not in boxes was filthy.
I would have been happy to give the bedspreads to the crew that delivered the furniture, had they asked. I subsequently send a complaint via e-mail to the manager but never had the courtesy of a reply. Needless to say, we don’t recommend this company.
Oh! The bedspreads were not the only things missing.
Scott,
Exactly what we are planning on doing. Do you know of any organizations that could use them?. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
