New Blackouts?

Hi all,

I live about 1.5km from Barva, and we just started having blackouts again yesterday. Last night it was about 20 minutes, and today we have had one for almost 6 hours with no end in sight…

Has anyone heard anything? I am really out of the loop with just my laptop and dialup, with no TV to catch any news.

Thanks for any insights if there are any to be had…

I think it is a local problem of your area as there have been no blackouts here in Santa Ana or in Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste when I was there the last 2 weeks.

Hi, we live on the road to Barva and have had the same problem. No one seems to know why. We also have several “low power” problems per day where our lights flicker or lower, but don’t quite go out. Our neighbors don’t seem to know why and don’t seem to care. Thank God for power back ups, it at least gives us enough time to turn off our computers. Good luck to you, tm

We picked up this Xanrex XPower 400watt from Pricemart for ~75,000 colones, and it power lights, a 19″ TV and my laptop for about 6 hours…
It’s amazingly worth it, it automatically kicks in so you wouldn’t know you lost power except for that it beeps really loudly

M, is this thing from PriceSmart a battery back-up unit or a generator?

It is a backup unit- but gives you 400watts for 1 hour.
Or, when running 2 lamps with 4 efficient bulbs- totalling ~30 watts, I can gets over 10 hours!
