“Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital and creates an unequal society. All socialists advocate the creation of an egalitarian society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly, although there is considerable disagreement among socialists over how, and to what extent this could be achieved.”

When they us the word “distributed”… just think of the term “spread the wealth around”! LOL

“Egalitarianism is a political doctrine that holds that all people should be treated as equals and have the same political, economic, social, and civil rights. Generally it applies to being held equal under the law and society at large. In actual practice, one may be considered an egalitarian in most areas listed above, even if not subscribing to equality in every possible area of individual difference.”

The BIG problem is the mindset of many people in the US… the current ENTITLEMENT attutude will doom this to failure.

The other problem is that to make such a system work…. government will have to go back to the same well they dip into for every expense… the middle class… the fat part of the bell curve…. and they’ve had enough already!

I agree with some of your points. I just believe a lot of the “poors” problems were started by government. My head is spinning from this, as Churchill said, I’ll a paraphrase a bit here; “Life…just one damn thing after another.” Enjoy your weekend.

Ah well, if you can’t beat ’em, might as well join them.

It seems to me that this entitlement culture that keeps getting referred to is not limited to the lowest rungs of the economic ladder. There certainly is government welfare that has the perhaps imperfectly implemented policy goal of alleviating poverty which seems to be a laudable goal.

But then we also have corporate welfare where corporate bigwigs are not content enough to settle for multi-million dollar salaries but also need huge swathes of redeemable stock options that rewards them for being alive because, as we can all see, it certainly isn’t related to performance. And then there is the golden parachute waiting if someone gets wise to their shenanigans. Sweet deals for the boys but more importantly, it does call into question just how great this system called capitalism is.

Perhaps, a little socialism might not be such a bad thing.

Imxploring, just a question but why do you always write in sound bites and SHOUT particular words? Your name isn’t Rush by any chance? 😉

Lotus…. I LOVE the Churchill quote…. and that was a guy who should know! He had his hands full! I was laughing for quite some time with that quote! LOL

I think we agree somewhat… and the current answer that government seems to have is just throwing money at problems… not looking to solve them or address the REASONS behind them! And now we’ve raised a society that’s use to that approach!

    Have a great weekend!

Sorry about the CAPS when it comes to some of my points… but you can’t underline words here that are important. As for the sound bites… isn’t that all that Americans can understand these days? Ask them to sit and research a topic and they’re lost! LOL Sound bites are what get the politicians elected… the substance behind those “bites” has been lacking for many years!

There’s a saying that’s been thrown around a lot lately…. “Privatize Profits, Socialize Losses” I guess that applies to corporate America as well as society! That’s part of the problem. It’s an attitude both on the individual level as well as the corporate level. Get all you can… but when things go bad… let someone else pick up the tab!

Now Detriot is looking for the next handout…. after YEARS (sorry about that Hombre) of making BAD choices! The wrong cars… poor fuel economy… Oversized SUVs…. MUSCLE cars with “hemi” engines…. are they kidding me? And now they’re at the brink of failure? Who would have guessed!!! LOL They’ve already increased the $$$ they’re looking for from Washington… and PLEASE mark my words… failure of the government to give them everything they want will somehow become a racial issue… I’m sure that comment will get some heated replies… but please… just tuck it under your pillow and leave it there.

There’s some REAL pain coming to the US… and for those folks reading this board… and those that have made the move or are thinking about CR… you know that already! THAT’S why you’re here… you’ve seen the signs and know something has to give.

As to the topic of this thread… why do YOU think CR is trying to increase the $$$ requirements for residency?

Hombre… Not Rush… but as much as I hate the guy… he does make a good point now and then… he just needs to look a little deeper into issues and history.

Don’t know if you know this but you might it interesting to note that Winston Churchill was the first to authorize the gassing of people in Iraq … A LONG time ago…

    See Winston Churchill’s memo at http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CHU407A.html ]

But it’s “OK” when we do it right?

Scott… Nice touch on the topic…

Reading the (Germany) memo you can almost hear the conversations taking place with his top advisors… straight forward, to the point, and in plain and simple context… don’t we all wish the leaders of today had such quailities!

Still… you’ve got to love his quote!

Getting back to the topic? Now, that’s novel.

Reasons for upping the requirements? I’ll just say upfront that I have no idea whatsoever. But I’ll surmise nonetheless.

    1. The amounts are that high because it’s a trial balloon and they know there will be a stink so perhaps it’s about starting off really high knowing full well that they will settle for less or they’ll relax other conditions to make up for the high entry amounts.
    2. They’re stupid.
    3. They’re xenophobic.

It’s exceedingly unlikely that they’re that stupid but it can’t be totally dismissed. After all, the past eight years would tend to support the idea that stupid people can get elected. Xenophobia could be an issue but unless there has been a marked uptick in negative feelings to foreigners by the populace, this seems unlikely as well. Of course, this doesn’t really account for the feelings of the ruling class in Costa Rica. Anybody have ideas on that?

My assumption is that the amounts as they presently stand are low and need revising upwards. Possibly the thinking behind this is to attract better off residents so that they can start taxing them more and improve government income. In addition to mandatory involvement in the Caja, there has been talk in the past of taxing worldwide income as well as the new policy of taxing property over US$180,000 or so. Right now that particular tax is affordable. That could change.

Scott, thanks for the history on Churchill and poison gas but I’m still trying to figure out why you threw that in. I know, I know… I’m thick.

    still:

4,999.99 a month of income is gravy in the south of the USA and GREAT in CR. Politics do not change the fact that you will eventually pay the same as your neighbor that makes the same amaunt, IF he is not complaining WHY?? are you.

Maybe because you do not like the new government but you will not be picket out, if you make $250,000.00 you will be taxed as same as anyone making the same amount.

$10,000,000,000 is what we owe read the #’s or maybe read the ZEROS” who will pay this debt??? your sons and daughters or your grandchildren.

WE made this mistake, WE will pay for our mistakes not our children

I have to jump in and comment on maravilla’s Denmark statement. While on vacation in the caribbean last year i made a good friend with a small business owner from Denmark.
All he could talk about was how the high tax’s were killing everyone and how the socialist government was making business owners foot the bill(which is why he left).
He said that if someone could not make top wage they would claim poor and take the handout. I go both ways with my political views but it does seem that this way of governing is backwards. It makes business’s ask why and it makes workers ask why am i working and not taking the free money. It makes people get lazy at the top and bottom.

Do you even begin to understand how condescending your approach is, Imx? You back up half your “points” like a cop lying on the witness stand…”I don’t know, but…”. You justify repetiitive use of sound bites as attempts to communicate with someone you undoubtedly consider inferior. “…isn’t that all that Americans can understand these days?”
    Americans? All we can understand?
There are times you actually impart some wisdom to this site. For the most part, though, you need to please respect the obvious intelligence and integrity you are just insulting by your display of your own lacking grace…and knowledge.

Perhaps my neighbor is too busy doing his best to keep his head above water… there will always be leaders and followers… governments hope for more folllowers then leaders.

Just because “everyone” will be taxed the same doesn’t mean it’s right.

As for the zero’s… the idea is NOT to add more!

I’m am sorry if that’s how it appears! A passion sometimes blinds you to the way to present it to others, and for that I am once again sorry.

As for the lying cop quote…. a quick check check doesn’t have me using “I don’t know, but” (your quotes)… perhaps I missed that. Perhaps you’d like to expand on the point I was making inwhich you feel my position was somehow compromised?

As for the sound bites comment… that was intended to be a half hearted joke… hence the “LOL” (laughing out loud) after the comment. Once again… not intended to be insulting or implying that someone is inferior. Just a sad commentary on an ever increasing part of the general public. The folks on this board are beyond that, they’ve done (or are doing) their research because they see the big picture and the direction this world is going.

I’ll do my best to be graceful… add what I can… and challenge that which I see as something which needs be.

But perhaps you’d like to do the same, while I appreciate your comment that I at times “impart some wisdom to this site” you’ve used words and terms like “condescending”, “like a cop lying”, “someone you undoubtedly consider inferior”, ” insulting”, and “your our own lacking grace…and knowledge”…. yet you’ve added nothing to this discussion or challenged the content or my views.

If you’d like to debate the issues I’m more than willing to do so, and I promise to do so without personal attacks and the use of such terms, as I have always done. Perhaps you’d like to do the same?

Perhaps a little more of a sense of humour and an appreciation of irony would make us less sanctimonious. Please insert smile here.
