So I thought I would be clever and complete the Ficha Catastral – Declaracion de Bienes Inmuebles myself – wishful thinking. Has anyone out there done their own or can someone recommend a good helper?

Off course you can do it yourself. You go to your municipality, to the “Catastro” or “Coordinacion de Hacienda”, they give you a form you have to fill in . Bring your plano catastrado and your finca number. Also description and size/square meters of your house, pictures also help. They will give you an idea about the current value of the building and they tell you the current value per square meter in the area or your property. They can also help you to fill in the form. BUT, if your property plus building is registered at a higher value than the values at the Muni, they will take this higher value as a base for the taxes. The government always wins….. 😈
