We will be coming to Costa Rica within 6 months to scout out a home/condo/land. 15 years ago I flew in and saw many signs on the road between Jaco and Quepos for accomadation for $30.00 to $40.00 per night incl. breakfast. Is this still a reality or should I book ahead ? Thanks for any input ! john, cdn

You will get a very nice/clean basic room on the beach in that price range. And if you’re lucky Nada will open the restaurant and make you some great pasta or lasagna. Spanish, Italian and some English spoken. Nada and Stephano 506 643 7044 tell them Keith says hola!

Not in the backpacker hostel catagory, but smaller, older places with not all of the bells and whistles. There are a couple of smaller hotels where we live in Esterillos Oeste which is just 15 minutes south of Jaco. They are in the $40 to $60 range and are clean and secure and right at the beach.

I planted like 14 trees on it in December and the company that was going to water them is not in business any longer! I know you had rain in January but has it been dry since? I am working on a new plan…
February 23, 2008 at 11:38 am #189498dkt2uMemberHi Lotus, if I get up that way I will check it out for you. We actually have several real good rains this month, so the plants might be doing ok. We had a good rain last night.

April 5, 2008 at 9:25 pm #189500FountainsGuesthsMemberPrices have JUMPED UP DRASTICALLY EVERYWHERE in the world in the past 15 years so be prepared!! Like others have said, $30-$40 is definitely in the low end and ya get what you pay for (so peeps – don’t complain in that range!).
As for flying by the seat of your pants with not having reservations. I USUALLY travel that way though I tend to get a place at least my first night and last night close enough to the airport. I would especially NOT NOT NOT do that anywhere near the beach especially just before New Years and Easter and I wouldn’t think of doing it between Xmas and Easter in general. I did it during U.S. Thanksgiving 3 years ago with no problem and it can be tighter between when the kiddies get out of school in the States and mid-Aug. That’s just my observation/experience.
