Hola,
I am heading to Costa Rica in a few weeks to spend a year there. I was just told you cannot book a one-way flight since they want to see a round-trip ticket at the airport (meaning the San Jose airport) Does anyone know if my return trip has to be within the 3 months window or can it be 5-6 months away? (I plan to visit Panama during first several months so that takes care of the 3 month limit…)
Thanks!
Kathleen in very cold Boston
Kathleen, it is also presently cool and very windy in parts of CR right now.
You can book the ticket for 5-6 or even just under the year and this is much better for you, rather than being stopped from boarding your plane due to trying to come on a one-way ticket.
ah ha! good advice, it would be a very bad start to be prevented from boarding before I even started my adventure…
I will make a trip back to Boston anyways in June/July so will just book that return. Thanks for quck response 🙂

For reasons I’ll never understand, when I checked one-way tickets they were more expensive than round trip! How this can be I do not know.
Anyhow, if you’re planning to return to the U.S. (maybe in June or July), why not book that flight when you make the reservation to fly here? If my experience holds up, you’ll pay the lesser round-trip fare and, at worst, you’ll have to pay the rebooking fee if your plans change.
