Hello everyone,
Does anyone know what’s really happening with the proposed international airport in southern Costa Rica? Will it be built or is it all talk and “planning”?
I have a home in southern CR and it sure would be great to be able to fly down non-stop.
Thanks

November 16, 2013 at 4:55 pm #166519AndrewKeymasterAgreed! I also don’t think the Orotina airport will happen… In flying time Orotina has to be less than 3 minutes from San José so why on earth would they do that and where on earth would they gt the money from?

PS. Would you please email me any recent links to articles about the Orotina airport? I missed those …

November 16, 2013 at 5:38 pm #166521blanzlMemberThanks for the update. It seems everything is up in the air! I thought the idea behind opening in southern CR was to divert planes south, similar to the opening of the airport up north, so as to reduce traffic at SJO. The new airport in the south was also to stimulate the economy in the southern regions. I guess no hard decisions have been made…
November 16, 2013 at 6:11 pm #166522costaricafincaParticipantToo many locals, various groups and environmentalists are opposed to an airport in that area. While many tourists do visit there for as short time, I don’t think many international flights would be filled.

marcia@osatropicalpropertiesHere is a description of the episode – it airs again on January 22.
Sharon and Vee fell in love with Costa Rica after taking a vacation to Ojochal. After years of traveling they realized it’s their favorite spot and want to retire with a home in the small town. But Vee wants to enjoy the solitude of living in Costa Rica’s lush jungles while Sharon wants to be close to town to continue her passion for theater and teaching children. Now, they’ll have to find a middle ground when House Hunters International retires to Ojochal, Costa Rica.

December 8, 2013 at 2:34 pm #166528AndrewKeymasterInteresting how there is not one single link to any official source in the article that might confirm this “new international airport” in Orotina
