You’re making a lot of assumptions there tomstew1
Please explain where the “hating” is in my initial post?
So we can all assume that you’re happy that your taxes are paying for that new one billion dollar embassy then?
And we can assume that you innocently believe your vote actually makes a difference?
So we should forget the past mistakes and the fact that we tend to repeat them ad nauseum and “move forward positive.”
I certainly am not alone in making assumptions here.
Hating may have been too strong…negatively slanted comments may have been a better choice.
So we can all assume that you’re happy that your taxes are paying for that new one billion dollar embassy then?
I am never happy to give my money to anyone really, but I like driving on nice roads, and all of the schools I attending were far from crumbling. Believe it or not, all of my schools after High School even had air conditioning! I do dislike poverty; more than you could ever understand actually….I was born into povery and experienced it first hand. That is one of the things that makes the USA great. You do have the opportunity to escape poverty. Is it easy? NoDo I like the fact that the US is spending $1B on an embassy in London. Not particularly. On my “pissed at the gov’t” meter, that ranks so low it is undetectable. Understand that there is quite a bit of range between:
Happy with all gov’t actions————————totally pissed at USA and want to expatriate. And we can assume that you innocently believe your vote actually makes a difference? However innocent or naive I may be to think so, the short anwer is yes. Beacuse: 1. It has worked in the past. 2. It is the only system I have to actually make change and finally; 3. I have seen it in action and it does actually work.
Are there things that needs to be changed, yes….ear marks, etc…and eventually those changes will be made. It just hasn’t gotten to critical mass just yet.
So we should forget the past mistakes and the fact that we tend to repeat them ad nauseum and “move forward positive.”[/ To answer your question: No, that would be senseless; and I wished I hadn’t use the term positive..Actually that word is considerably overused in the US. We should learn from our mistakes and diligently move forward on creating a better world for ALL of us. New thinking is always good (remember Einsteins quote), and ultimately it is up to the people of the US to vote and make change where change needs to be made.
Don’t take anyting I said personally…actually I am busy as hell and probably shouldn’t have let my fingers do the talking here…..
I am coming to CR for the beauty of the country, good fishing and good people. I hate to be around people who only see “half empty” water bottles so-to-speak.

February 26, 2010 at 9:15 pm #157911sstarkeyMemberWell, according to the article, the existing embassy was sold for $1B to some Qatari investors who will turn it into a luxury hotel. So, net net, new spending “should be” zero. I’m guessing the well-heeled Mayfair neighbors of the existing embassy will be quite happy to have their ‘hood freed of armed guards and that overhanging sense of unease of living in close proximity to a very high profile target…
Oh yes, and our British friends will get an economic boost from the construction investments from both the Qataris and the Americans.
Yup, working for the embassy or building it…nice work, if you can get it.
February 26, 2010 at 11:36 pm #157912soldierMembertomstew1,
I appreciate and respect your comments. My sayings for years have been, The american dream is no longer in America; and, the american dream is only in effect, when you are sleeping. After serving combat tours in Vietnam, The Gulf War and Iraq, I finally realized, I had not soldiered for democracy, freedom or to keep america secure. Rather, I was the tool to keep the top 1% in power and wealth. Also, in reality, corporations and the top 1% control the wealth and the world’s natural resources. We can all vote until we turn blue, however, the power of our citizen’s votes; are only an illusion. My fellow service members and I took an oath to protect the Constitution, against enemies foreign and domestic. Yet, we allow corrupt and power hunger politicians to initiate immoral wars and rape america. The true enemy is the political system, politicians, corporations, the Supreme Court and the top 1%. I consider myself a patriot, I have tried voting, I have written politicians, I have joined organizations, and I have engaged the enemy in combat. That having been said, I look forward to living a healthy and affordable life in Costa Rica.
