We recently completed purchase of a few acres in Costa Rica. We plan to build in 5 years. Does anyone have any advice for getting the property taxes paid remotely or through a 3rd party, from the US? Thanks
I bought property 5 years ago and before I actually moved here, I had my attorney who represented me in the purchase pay my taxes and keep my CR corporation in order before I moved here full time. I still have him take care of this for me at a small fee so I know it is done properly
We have the attorney who represented us in the purchase pay our yearly corporation taxes, but were told that the property taxes must be paid in person at the local municipality. Was your attorney local? Maybe our issue is that our attorney is in San Jose, no where near our property.
You can certainly pay your attorney to do this… And for him to pay a messenger to make payments anywhere in the country should not be a complicated or costly matter but, you do have to follow up.
Never assume that something will be done. Never assume that your attorney will remember important dates – things like taxes.
It is YOUR property and YOUR responsibility to remind your attorney to do things when they need to be done, you will probably need to push a few times before it is done and then you must get a written confirmation (receipt for taxes paid) back from him/her that they have been done.
