A married couple needs to show proof of only one (1) monthly pension, of at least US$1,000, for both husband and wife to qualify to apply for residency. The pension recipient can be either spouse.Remember, The CAJA payment is based upon the monthly pension amount you receive.
When we received our almost two years ago it was 1000 for both of us and you have to pay caja every month. you renew every two years. we used an attorney. we had to go to the U.S. embassy and have them draft a certified letter for each of us showing our income from social security. I think you have to make an appointment for that certification, might as well wait until 2014. Keep in mind that in costa rica they never used to get anything done in the government for December and January because of vacations for holidays. so check on that too.
Unless, you apply as an individual, only one pension for a minimum of $1000 per month if you are a legally married couple is required. You may be required to renew your cedula after one year or it may be two…
Presently, applicants have reported that from start to receiving your cedula is taking between 18-24 month. 😥
Income is for the couple of 1000 dollars unless it has changed in the last few months

One (1) pension with a monthly benefit of of at least US$1,000 is sufficient for you, your wife, and any dependents under the age of 25 (the dependent must be single) to qualify to apply for residency under the Pensionado program. So, your wife does not need a separate pension.

Javier, I understood that dependents must be under 18, single and in the education system here, so is this correct or not?
A dependent that is totally dependent on the applicant, they too are covered, right?
