Does anyone have information on the availability of permethrin based products in Costa Rica, either in bulk or retail-size quantities?
Although there are synthetic varieties, the original Permethrin is a natural, crushed flower-based liquid that is a much better insect repellent than DEET, and is especially effective against ticks (which are “in season” now).
Any information will be helpful and appreciated.

Try the farmacias under the name permetrina.
Never use these products on or around cats: Permethrin is toxic to cats
We can’t use permethrins since we have both dogs and cats who interact and play with each other.
We have been using Frontline topical for both the cats and dogs. It has proven very effective for about 6 to 8 weeks. We buy it at the local agrocenter in Colon.
