Does anyone know whether there are any active, playing bagppipe bands in Costa Rica? I’m about 8 years from retirement and seriously considering Costa Rica but piping is a big part of my life and it would certainly be nice to carry that on down there if possible. Thanks.

As a Scot, I’m sorry to say, pipe bands are not to be heard here.
That’s not to say that there is no-one playing the bagpipes as there is a group who celebrate Burns night in January.

Hmmm, wonder if there might be interest in starting one? What’s the likelihood of rounding up a gaggle of hardy Scots in possession of sticks, ya think? 😆

Problem is, that ex-pats are spread all over the country…so I wouldn’t recommend retiring here on the chance of starting one.

You can see the website of the group that we normally have playing at Burns Night at [ http://www.peregrinogris.com/ ]

Might be an idea to speak with them and ask about fellow pipers in Costa Rica…

Happy New Year by the way …. We had a wee dram last night but no lump of coal I’m afraid…

Thanks to you both, and a Happy Hogmanay to all as well. I’ll check those guys out, but this was never a deal breaker for me, I’ve done lots of research and Costa Rica looks very attractive for retirement, pipers or none.

I skipped over this post a number of times, not bothering to read it, because I thought it was a question about plumbing!! I’m still laughing as I type this. 😆

PS: I love listening to pipes! Bagpipes, that is. 😉

I thought it might have been referring to the Blue Man group!

Some folk have been said to say there is a noise common to both….
Och …I can say this since I’m a Scot!

Well, there have been times when I’ve played my pipes for so long that I get a little blue in the face, but I’m thinking that’s not quite the same thing . . . . and I love listening to bagpipes too, although I may be a little biased.

… and if you love the pipes you’re all coming to the Burns Night at the end of the month, right?

If only . . . but I’ll be playing at our own version up here in frigid Canada the following evening.
