:DHi,
its not a done deal, but my husband may get a job assignment in CR for a few years. I would appreciate any and all help with some questions!! After some research Escazu seems like it might be a cool place!

1. How far is Escazu from his would be job in Heredia?
2. Could I live in a nice, safe area with room for the kids with a housing allowance of 3,000 USD?
3. I saw the website of the country day school, anyone have any feedback about it?
4. what neighborhoods are close to this school?
5. The bug factor is one of the biggest hinderences for me, im totally roach phobic and heard they fly down there!!! How big of an issue is this??
6. Ive heard driving can be crazy, is it possible to survive while hubby is at work by taking cabs??
7. Are there moms groups and anywhere where I can really get plugged in and make friends?

thank you for taking the time to answer these questions for me!!

1. Heredia is a big area but I would not recommend daily commuting from Escazu to Heredia – It could take you 30 minutes and could take 90 minutes depending on where you are in Heredia or Escazu

2. $3,000 should be quite sufficient to rent a nice home

3. Country Day School is considered to be a good and expensive school, there are many good schools here.

4. It’s in Escazu so Escazu and Santa Ana are within easy reach.

5. I had more bugs in my Manhattan apartment than I have in my San Jose apartment. However this is Costa Rica so you should expect to see some of Mother Nature’s wonders.

6. The Ticos can make a two lane road into a three lane road in seconds but you’ll get used to it … If not, there are plenty of trustworthy can drivers that you can rely one.

7. Most schools will have different parental groups that you will find easily.

Eyvone,

Read all you can. I suggest the yahoo group Costa Rica Living as a good resource. Also Phil Baker’s Costa Rica Now http://www.cr-now.com. I think its the most complete and comprehensive book written on living and owning in Costa Rica to date. its about 500 pages. The best guide book I have found is Moon Costa Rica guide http://www.moon.com . The most important thing you can do besides reading is learning Spanish. Very important to start accumulating vocabulary. This site features a Sapnish course. If you end up wanting to buy, then check out Scott Oliver’s book. Its filled with practical info you will need to know. He also offers some DVD”s that appear very helpful. Information is your ally, so stock up. Costa Rica living resources are easier to get in the states than here, so buy there.

Don’t worry about the bugs and you can get an awesome home for 3000 a month.
