My lawyer in Costa Rica handles my property and corporate taxes. Besides the filing fee ($200.00), they charge me for a few things that I’m not sure of. For instance. They charge me for a
Government Stamp: $100.00
Annuity for Registered Office: $150.00
Shareholders Meeting: $250.00
Are these reasonable charges?
I paid $205,000.00 for my land and they are charging me
$577.50 per year Property Tax and
$362.50 per year Corporate Tax
Do these figures sound right?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
FYI
These numbers sound a little on the high side to me but I’m trying to get confirmation from my attorney friends who are – like most people at this time of the year – enjoying themselves.
Will reply as soon as I hear back from one of them …

Here’s the feedback from my friend Attorney Roger Petersen:
“Lawyers may charge a resident agent fee – that is the $150 indicated. The annual corporation tax for “inactive” is around $200 and if the lawyer is paying for the client then charge of around $50 to $75 are reasonable. However that is due in January so he will probably see and additional charge for that.
The shareholder meeting $250 and government stamp $100 – I don’t know about that depends what they are having the meeting for – Some Attorneys have the annual shareholder meeting and charge the client for that service.”
