Unlike many of the posters we are considering a move to CR for work purposes. This would be a relocation from the UK. There are lots of great posts on people from the US retiring and purchasing properties with lots of super information. Unfortunately, for someone who would be working for a company in CR who’s just looking to rent for a couple of years it looks like there’s not as much information.
Can anyone suggest a good relocation company (e.g., handles residency stuff, helps with finding a rental property, gets utilities set up, phones, mobiles, internet, satellite, etc.)?
I’ve looked around La Nacion and The Tico Times, but couldn’t find much there either. We’ve been around the “expatriate” bend before and see a lot of similarity in the postings here regarding transitional needs. However, in a non-retiree transfer situation we need someone on the ground who can help make a transition happen in weeks.
Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.
Oh, and thanks Scott for letting us know that we’ll sorely miss pub culture. Any chance of finding a premiership football package on satellite?
Cheers!
May 17, 2006 at 3:38 pm #176601AndrewKeymasterThe problem with renting is that most homes are rented completely unfurnished. And I mean COMPLETELY unfurnished. I’ve seen places where you would have to buy your own lightbulbs.
So many people say to themselves; “If we have to buy all these appliance and furniture, we may as well buy a home.” And I can’t blame them for thinking that way.
You can find furnished places for rent but, they are either A: Cheap and crappy (no! That’s not Spanish) or B: Nice and bloody expensive.
There doesn’t seem to be much in between.
Having said that, my Escazu penthouse apartment rents for US$1,100 per month (584 British Pounds) and it’s gorgeous. You can see photo’s of my apartment at

PS. And I’m certainly not retired!
