As i understand it ….if i put 60K in a CR bank….then i can apply to get rentista status which means i dont have to leave the country to stamp a visa every 90 days….
true or false?how does the bank account work….they release 1000 per month to your use?
the bank pays interest on the principle at what rate?
thanks
June 5, 2008 at 4:08 pm #191105grb1063Member$60K per person and you must draw $1,000/month per person for 5 years and keep all receipts for the transactions. Rentistas must be in the country a minimum of 4 months per year, non-consecutive.

Thanks for the info – we are relocating in 3 months and have been trying to figure out which way to go….rentista or pensionado?June 6, 2008 at 1:35 am #191107grb1063MemberIf you have an S.A. (corporation) set-up or bank accounts in CR, it is typical to have a dollar account and a colones account. You can automatacially set-up the withdrawal from the dollar account into the colones account and that would satisfy the requirement. Then you can pay your bills out of the colones account. Consult your attorney in CR if you have one. I not, there are plenty of recommendations on this site.
June 6, 2008 at 10:35 am #191108DavidCMurrayParticipantMy attorney, a residency specialist, says that transferring money from a dollar account to a colon account on-line and printing out the transaction confirmation will NOT satisfy the requirement for converting dollars when you go to renew your residency. I dunno . . .
The requirement to post $60,000 and withdraw $1,000 per month is a “per person” requirement, not a family requirement. For minor children, the requirementis$30,000 per child and $500 per month. This applies to “rentista” residency status, not pensionado status.
June 6, 2008 at 3:24 pm #191109stephenfMemberok,,,,assumning one is rentista status…………
what if the you dollar account transfers money to the colones account which is also an account from which you have set up to do automatic payments of your utilities and phones and taxes from…..
and do those bank accounts you deposit the 60K into pay at what interest>>?also….does anyone know if they have bank accounts down there that are attached to an automatic debit/credit card….
i keep seeing posts about people saying to use atm when in CR to get cash…
what is the per transaction cost …..do the banks have checking accounts……..and if so is there any problems in having them accepted at stores and restaurants?
June 6, 2008 at 8:37 pm #191110PegMemberIf your eligible for pensionado status, why would you want to go with rentista? Pensionados do not have to deposit any money in the bank, and they only have to convert $600.00 dollars to colones each month.

Sorry, That post was actually meant to answer costaricabills post, where he said he was trying to decide between pensionado or rentista status. I inadvertantly left off his name.
My apologies,
