MemberHas anyone renewed his/her residency lately? I understand it can be done through BCR. How far in advance should the process be started? We got a 2-year card that will expire in 11/12. Thanks in advance for any help!

Membercall the 900 number about 3 weeks before the expiration date. and yes, you can renew at BCR — you have to tell immigration which office you want the appt to be at. the whole process took less than 15 minutes when my husband renewed a few weeks ago.

Many thanks for your input. I had heard that it would take more than a year, hence my early concern.

I am due to renew in May 2012 and have a number direct to BCR to set an appointment. The number provided may be missing a number [(800) 227-27-82] which I am going to verify in the morning.
I will post in the morning whether the number is correct or not.

Memberthey won’t even let you make an appointment more than about 6 weeks out. i did see that 800 number posted at BCR when we went in about 3 weeks ago, but we always just call the 900 number. . . which, you cannot call from your cel phone unless ICE has unlocked it to call 900 numbers. you have to use a phone card, so that would be the advantage of using the 800 number, although when my husband called it took less than about 3 minutes to get a human and get an appointment.

Memberit can be for either two or three years, it all depended on the computer at the migra says that day. my two-year cedula is due to be renewed next may, but my husband just renewed his and they said it was for three years.

KeymasterAnd mine was renewed for five years… I know there’s a reason for that but can’t remember what it is …
Sorry! I deliberately try NOT to stay up to date with residency issues.

ParticipantWell, I’m afraid it ain’t quite that easy. We got our permanent residencies a year or so ago and our cedillas are only good for two years. After that, I think, it’ll go to five year, but I’m not sure.

Memberyes, that’s correct — the first one is for two years, after that it’s five years. with other forms of cedulas the time varies from two to three years, although on one renewal i opted for only one year, and i can’t remember why i did that.
