Hi there folks, just wondering what the condition of the raod between Quepos and Dominical is like these days. Does it require a 4×4 vehicle?
You could get by with a car but as most cars in CR have a pretty low ground clearance I’d go with the 4×4… it’s rough in spots! The trip also depends on the weather… rain will make it tougher and there are spots that seem to always be mud! They’re making good progress and it’s going to be fantastic once all the bridges and new roadway are complete… shame is you’ll lose the charms and sights that a slow trip through the area provide now. Its a beautiful area of the country! I’ve sampled more odd fruits and treats from roadside vendors waiting at the one lane bridges! Part of the charm of CR…
The road is still gravel. There are some ruts here and there but overall the ride is, well, on gravel. They are drastically working on drainage and the multiple bridges, but it seemed to take me approx: 40 min to 1 hour to arrive i quepos from Dominical. It will be nice when Ticos no longer have to suffer from the dust that these dirt/gravel roads create! Pura Vida!
I found the road to be quite good considering the past. I recently read an article at http://www.sellingcr.com that talks about the recent bus accident in Tinamaste during Semana Santa. Very very sad. So peeps, I think you should all take extra care when driving the roads of Costa Rica!
