In all of our trips, we’ve never seen a sailboat on Lake Arenal. We know about the winds & windsurfing but would be interested in knowing more about boating. We have a small day sailer (17′) and are thinking about shipping it down, would appreciate any input before we make a decision. Thanks.
I own property on Lake Arenal and have a 12 foot Escape which is a fairly high tech (roller furling, carbon fiber mast, and mylar sail)which I used to sail weekly. Great lake to sail on. Bring it on down.
Thanks Ben, you helped. Dave would like to build a new boat once we are there, do you or does anyone know about the availability of fiberglass building materials?
Hey ben what about the reported gators? Any body seen any lately?
The last report we heard ( in Dec.) was that there had’nt been any sightings for some time.
I’ve spent a lot of time explorng the shores of the lake and fishing….haven’t seen any gators…. have spotted a few large river otters… fun to watch and can be mistaken for a gator if you don’t know what your looking for!
Sorry , it is my bad english, but I have searched gator and otter in a translator, and nothing came up !!!
Would there be a kind of monster in Lake Arenal ? never ever heard about that !!!
Ciao
Jo
Hey Jo,
Here’s a link to what we’re talking about… be careful not to get too close… these Otters are know to attack and sink large boats and eat people whole….. only kidding!! LOL 😉
A Scottish friend wrote me a while back that the current rumor in Scotland is that the Lake Ness monster, Nessie as she is also know in the Highlands, had moved to Costa Rica to live the Pura Vida. Could it be by chance her that people are beginning to spot in Lake Arenal?
Damn – all this time I thought I only had to be worried about being gator bait – now I have to worry about Nessy too!
Hi There:
I own a 35 foot Trimaran Sailboat in Costa Rica now, and am thinking of cutting it so we can ship it to the lake, as we are looking for property there. Would this be able to charter out on the lake ??
swami,
not sure if there is a commerical application but call Jim Aoki, he has lived there a long time and does windsurfing and fishing in the Lake. I am sure he could give you some ideas. Best to phone him, he is busy and not always quick to reply to emails. Can reach him at Rico Realty (Google that and it will get you to their website).
