Additionally, a publication of the Financial Times picked San Jose, Costa Rica as 5th in its ranking of “cities of the future” in Latin America. Costa Rica’s capital attained the distinction out of 405 Latin cities surveyed.
Moreover, downtown Heredia and the western suburb of Santa Ana were also mentioned (in fifth and eighth place, respectively) in the micro-cities with great potential category. San Jose was topped in the rankings only by Santiago, Chile; Lima, Peru; Monterrey, Mexico, and Bogata, Colombia.
The publication took into account the amount for foreign investment attracted by the cities. Variables in the criteria economic potential, human resources, costs, quality of life, infrastructure and business climate.

the average home price is $125,000 and 33% are renting
the average salary in CR is $550.00 a month
OF course if you have dollars, euros this does not apply to you but if you are a TICO and have have colones, SORRY!!!!!
Uruguay and Equador have a better standard of living than Costa Rica compared to “FOREIGN” investment in CR
take my post with a grain of SALT, since I am married to a TICA and have a house in Desamparados
DAMM!!!
I should of married a woman from XXX country but that is not the case

August 1, 2011 at 2:57 pm #169045AndrewKeymasterWere you not recently admonishing us smekuly and recommending that we stop whining and start offering solutions?
Here’s my solution:
If you don’t like San Jose, don’t live there!
August 1, 2011 at 3:22 pm #169046smekulyMemberScott
your right!!! as you always are 😀
and I did because I don’t live in san jose now.
and I am not whining.::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry: i made an observation based on my PERSONAL REAL LIFE experience here in San Jose.
I mean if i had posted an article titled:
” growing healthy plants on high rise balcony and whether or not being so close to the new stadium affects its growth”
and Scott Oliver made a comment regarding this
I would listen because you have REAL LIFE PERSONAL experience. as opposed to someone who reads about growing plants on a high balcony
please forgive me if I appeared to be whining.
here let me rephrase this so I don’t appear to be whining
Geeeeeee!!!! what an excellent article I guess San Jose must be one of the places to be in the future.
thank you for that 😉

August 1, 2011 at 4:45 pm #1690472bncrMemberhaha. Hey It is what it is, Doing biz here can make anyone nautious. CR is a dam hard place to do biz. Its great for other things but to come here to make money is way differnt than comming here to spend money. Now I like San Jose because I am one of those persons that has been tropicalized. I go back to the uS and its wierd. Had someone stay 10 days to visit lately and they kept saying, but everything is so run dowm. Its like a beautiful woman, you doný see the beauty any more after about 6 months. Same with a homely woman. if you can get througnh the first six months than you can actually find her actions attractive. So I have been told HAHA
San Jose is like that for me. I find the people there never boring and that is why I like it for the drama and there is plenty of it. Is it dirty, appears so. Do I like it bçnitty gritty… yes maam. If you are the kind that comes here to stay in your house and replicate your standard of living for cheaper than you will never appreciate san jose one because you won´t learb Spanish. San Jose without spanish is like a brothel without money. You won´t get it! Sorry but I loved the analogy on many differernt levels. Anyways warts and all I love it. To do biz in Costa rica is a challenge and I would reccomand that middle america come here to spend money but not to make it. If you are coming here to make money 9 times out of 10 you are coming for the wrong reason. Come to play not to work and you will do Ok as this place is verflowing with adult children. It literalyy a country of çhildren playing grown up games! yeah lets party.
I have to agree with Scott. I have been guilty of whining here and complaining so I have refrained because as wagoneer said, life is what you make it. So true.
August 2, 2011 at 6:05 pm #169048spriteMemberRegarding the “run down look” of the cities in CR, like 2bncr, I believe that after a while, you become used to seeing it and it starts to feel like your favorite old, tattered and frayed but comfortable pair of well worn blue jeans. There is just too much more important positive stuff which over ride the cosmetics of the architecture and infrastructure.
August 2, 2011 at 6:37 pm #1690492bncrMember‘over ride comestics archetecure and infrastructure’
Well from an esoteric POV I guess. Not so if your are an investor though. Curb appeal is one of the most important parts of RE investment and goes hand in hand with location.
Look if you live here its you playing field and most Ticos are not going to invest internationally. Americans should think twice because most people should live by their investments. San Jose is an acquired taste. I dont let my investments get in the way of my life. However most peoples investments are their life. I set it up differnt. Lifestyle first, investments second. I am here for the lifestyle and if you come to CR for investment first and then lifestyle you may be disappointed.
