I am thinking of driving my own Costa Rican car to Panama City, Panama. Can anyone give me information about papers needed to take the car over the border, the time it takes to cross the border and the time it takes to drive the whole distance. Where would I get Panama Insurance for my Costa Rican car? Any advice on a good hotel near the border?
You will have to have a Costa Rican attorney prepare the documents that will be required to drive your car into Panama. Friends who have done this tell me it’s not very expensive but it is very necessary.
Papers cost about $20. You get insurance at the border. Not very expensive. If I remember right it is less than $20.
After clearing the border, It will take about 8 hours to PC.
