scott
this made me laugh
on one extreme… you have 2/3rds of millionare BRITS that left to avoid the draconian 50% tax rate
on another extreme
you have the Unites States of America becoming an entitlement country.
and on another extreme you have CUBA of all places realizing that goverment run institutions are NOT the way to go and they should dip a little into capitalism lol

I wonder if CUBA in 10 years will be a great opportunity??

November 29, 2012 at 6:47 pm #163938waggoner41MemberIs it possible that no one is satisfied with the type of government under which they live?

No red tape, small government, and probably low taxes.

Living UNDER any superior power is not desirable. Governments are monsters, the bigger they get, the more hideous they become.
Governments operate solely by use of force. They don’t ever protect anyone but themselves. They don’t ever DO anything which does not directly increase their powers and control.
November 29, 2012 at 7:58 pm #163941VictoriaLSTMemberSomeone once said that the problem with princes (governments) is that they don’t produce, they only steal.

I agree wholeheartedly.
Watch Morsey in Egypt. I am unsure whether he is the benevolent dictator or just another power hungry megalomaniac.December 3, 2012 at 9:29 pm #163943spriteMemberThere is no question here as to what Morisi is. Anyone who claims extraordinary powers under ANY circumstances is a megalomaniac by definition. Any cItizens who sit by and let this happen out of fear of foreign armies or terrorism deserve what always follows: permanent loss of any republic they may have had and loss of freedoms.
This has already happened in the US last century. If your freedoms can be removed or so easily taken away, you never really had them to begin with did you?

Cut to the chase. What freedoms do you think you have?
Being an anarchist does not give you any more freedom than anyone else.
December 4, 2012 at 5:22 pm #163945spriteMemberThe only freedoms I or anyone else has are those that can’t be taken away by force. I can’t think of any freedoms anyone has right now which can be guaranteed. It will be interesting to see if the 2nd amendment can be cancelled.

that is truly a great question.. we toss around the word that it becomes rhertoric.
can we get a list of definitions of freedoms that we should have or do have??? here is an interesting article called
10 Reasons The U.S. Is No Longer The Land Of The Free
http://jonathanturley.org/2012/01/15/10-reasons-the-u-s-is-no-longer-the-land-of-the-free/
what is freedom really and can we ever be truly free??? if you ask people of the United states they would regurgitate some sound bite
a great quote from escape from New York
I spoke with a friend that lives in Oregon and he thinks that is the most free place to be
love to hear what freedom means to other people
thanks

December 5, 2012 at 3:03 pm #163947VictoriaLSTMemberDuring the 1960s, the Soviet Union put out a booklet called, “The Future of Freedom”, claiming that the USSR was a land of greater freedom than the USA. All the ‘freedoms’ in the booklet were “Freedom from” something (from hunger, from homelessness, etc.)
In the USA, was, “Freedom to”. To speak, to own, to do…. Of course, that includes the freedom to fail.
With all the current government assistance, we seem to be falling into the trap of ‘freedom from’ and giving a ‘no thanks’ to individual effort.
Comments?

Sprite, You evade the question. Name the freedoms you have lost.
You certainly have not lost the freedom to move to Costa Rica if you can afford to do so.
