In 1991 i bought my dream on costa rica’s best kept secret beach south of jaco. we’ve enjoyed vacations once or twice a year for all these years escaping for brief periods (nafta. considered retiring/seeking residency because our precious c.r. didn’t have anything the u.s. wanted until recently -cafta. Still don’t know exactly what it is c.r. has that they want but i don’t want to be here when they go after it.
I have no idea how to proceed. gringo neighbors and some tico ‘friends’ have been circling my wagon recently. so i’m thinking of selling before i meet my sell-by-date as i like to refer to it. I think i’d be pretty fussy to whom i sold it just as i’ve been fussy to whom i rented it or let use it. not someone who wants to ‘flip’ it, so to speak. I considered just giving it to the town but last August i saw the mayor riding around in a Lexus SUV which spoke volumes.

Well. for what it’s worth, most likely not much, it seems you have mixed emotion with business. I’m a good guy, you could give your cassita to me! Or you could sell it at fair market value to whomever comes up with the money first and call it a day…….

Or she could sell the casita at a reasonable price and give the proceeds to a local charity. The Cruz Roja is always desperate for money. The local school or church could probably use a capital improvement. There are a couple of bird sanctuaries that could use funding. The list goes on . . .

Yeah, she could but she doesn’t know what a reasonable price is and besides that the Cruz Roja puts too much money in its own pocket, unless you mean the Costa Rican equivalent Cruz Verde. The local church has been well subsidized by the Christians (born-again i believe they call themselves) and the imf and world bank have just pledged humanitarian aide to the schools.Bird sanctuaries sounds like a terrific idea. thanks. Or my new favorite the Costa Rica Homeless Soccer team! 💡

Yvette – how did you go from 1st person pronouns (“I”) to third person pronouns (“she”) in a matter of sentences? Is it you or her? my advice is to sell (and yes David, we all know what is a “reasonable” price – it is one that the buyer is willing to pay and the seller is willing to accept, neither party being under duress!). (Appraisal 101)

If necessary, take your lumps and get back to the USA and don’t look back. For most people, living in CR is an adventure and, as such, just enjoy it as long as you can!

crb I was responding to David in kind. It’s me. For me as well it has been a 19yr. adventure! I’ve enjoyed just about everything CR has to offer. Mainly people. one thing I haven’t experienced yet – the turtles down south. But marines have a way of taking the fun out stuff, plus i’m not sure it’s the u.s. i want to get back to. thanks for the lesson. an appraisal sounds right. perhaps the person whose video i watched the other day on this site. Thanks. y

If you are fussy as to who buys your home Yvette – and you have every right to be – you might want to consider our For Sale By Owner service which you can see at [ https://www.welovecostarica.com/public/2013.cfm ] It’s only $299 but all you need is one good buyer, right?
