Hi, I’m sure I’ve seen info on this here, but I tried searching and couldn’t find it.
question: If I ordered a small item from say, amazon.com, could I have it shipped to some company in the US, who would then forward it to CR? And, what’s the deal with import duty?
I am coming to CR for a 3 month stay, next week, Jun 2-Aug 29. I will be staying near Grecia. Unfortunately I sort of need an item that I don’t have time to order for delivery here. Hence, my question.
Thanks, Fred
May 27, 2008 at 2:56 pm #190951AndrewKeymasterI receive lots of books and stuff from Amazon regularly, in fact I received a camera lens about ten minutes ago via Aerocasillas who deliver to my door.
You can see more at their company’s website Aerocasillas [ http://www.aeropost.com/Main.htm ]
Your delivered product cost will reflect the actual product cost, plus insurance costs, plus shipping costs, plus fuel and customs charge and then on top of that, if applicable – import taxes so it isn’t cheap.
Please note that I have been doing business with Aerocasillas for years and many competitors have cropped up during that time so it might pay to look around at some of the others before making a decision.
Now you know why I get the expensive stuff shipped to friends in the US and they bring it down on the plane for me ….
I do NOT know if they will deliver to Grecia but they could certainly hold it for you here pending your arrival to collect it from their offices. You would however need to establish an account with them before your order anything.

Besides shipping costs, do you know if there will be import duty? I’ll be taking it back to the US with me when I leave CR Aug 29.

May 27, 2008 at 3:09 pm #190954AndrewKeymasterThere probably will be import duty but I have no idea how much.
I gave up asking those types of questions years ago when I noticed that when I ordered three of the EXACT SAME product.
The three products were delivered to me separately over a four week period and three very different import duties were applied to the exact same item.
Please accept the fact that there are some questions here that just don’t have answers or, have three or four different answers (??).
