Hi
My girlfriend is pregnant so Im wondering about C Rican laws pertaining to taking children out of the country. As an Irish citizen I know any children born outside of Ireland with an Irish parent can automatically qualify for Irish citizenship. That may make it easier, not sure. Hoewever in the meantime if either one of us wanted to travel with the child to Ireland is it straightforward or do we have to travel together or with permission from the other if separate ? Is there much documentation or pretty straightforward ?
Many thanks
It is very important that your name be on the birth certificate.
You need to go to Migracion & they will pull your file & put stamps in your child’s passport giving authorization to leave. Even with that, when you go to the airport you must do the following:
1) pay your departure tax;
2) go to the Migracion window with the departure tax form filled out for each of you & present your passports & cedulas to them with this. They will make some notes in the computer, then stamp/sign the departure tax receipt & that specifically says you are leaving the country with a minor;
3) get in line to check into the airline;
4) go back through the line at security for minors – they will waive you through if you have followed the above.
When you go to Migracion, be sure you get the type of permission that allows either parent to travel with your child
